Best Way to Record Melee with no Lag

I record Melee and Project M with an Elgato and my Wii, but since Elgato's output is HDMI i can't use a CRT. I use a monitor, so the lag is barely noticeable, but I'm curious how big tournaments live stream CRT gameplay in such high quality

Probably just split the input to the recorder. One to the recorder, one to the TV. Hauppage HD PVR for example has component pass through, you can have component in, and component out, then pass it to the computer with USB. Personally I do that and then convert the component into HDMI with a video processor.
