Best way to practice SDI?

I've never really been good at SDI, and I'd like to train it. Unfortunately, the only trick I know of, Smart Bombs in training mode, have an amazingly low SDI multiplier. So low, in fact, that I had to look up whether it even existed in SSB4. So, where can I train Smash DI? I'd rather not do it in a proper match, there's too many distractions there. Is there some way I can force a training-mode CPU to do a certain move over and over again? Some other item that I can practice Smash DI on?

Try on for glory, cause it will put you in a match setting and train you to have DI become second nature. Sooner or later you'll do it without noticing

Smart Bombs are actually the easiest thing to SDI in the game...

These were the drills I was doing when I was messing with this a few weeks ago:

1. To practice SDI in one direction, use a Smart Bomb. With good SDI, you can fall out of the explosion and escape it before the final hit.
2. To practice SDI in multiple directions, use a Smart Bomb near a ledge and go around and under the stage to tech the stagespike.
3. To bring it all together in a fun and flashy way, you can give a CPU Mac a KO Punch and try to SDI down and under the ledge to tech it and save yourself; CPU Mac is pretty predictable about when he punches, and the slowdown gives you more time to mash out your SDI (though it's pretty strict, and the camera zoom makes it hard/impossible to see what you're doing)

If you just wanted to practice it in more practical situations and have another controller/someone else available, I'd practice escaping things like Little Mac's rapid jab.

Lastly, it might have to do with the direction you're SDIing in; I couldn't really find resources that accurately explained what to do, but wiggling back and forth over cardinal directions resulted in a lot of movement while diagonals resulted in little to none. Someone more familiar with the mechanics than myself could likely better fill you in on that.

Well SDI is really weak in this game. It's almost negligible. As long as your regular DI is good, SDI isn't gonna save you any more except in rare circumstances. All it's really good for in this game is getting out of some jabs if you're low on percent.

There is an item called Smart Bomb, which releases a continually expanding explosion upon detonation. You can spawn them at will in Training mode and use them to make sure you've got your SDI skills well timed.

I was going to come in this thread and say that SDI doesn't matter in this game but holy heck those 2 gfys are impressive.

Care to share your method for SDI ? Do you use the 2 sticks or just the analog ?
