Best way to hook up a Gamecube / Wii to a HDMI monitor?

I have a monitor with a really low response time and I'd like to try to hook up my wii to it. Only problem is that I only have component cables and my monitor only takes HDMI. I know there are alot of converters but mostly have mixed reviews or do weird things. like output only widescreen and stretch the picture or something. Is there a definitive best way to play melee on the wii with a gaming monitor?

I think a converter would be the only way to go, considering the Wii would only take Component/Composite cables.

I think the converter would cause a small amount of lag (enough for your friends to use it as an excuse), but I don't really see any other way around it... The best solution I see is to get a CRT.

Response time != lag. Response time is how fast the screen can change a pixel's color. Lag is how long it takes to start changing the color. Can you adjust the aspect ratio on your monitor?

A passthrough device would only creates 100 or less microseconds of lag

I thought changing the signal from physical analog to digital took longer than that, but I guess I was wrong. Thanks for the correction!

EDIT: Got my terminology mixed up, I meant "analog" when I said "physical". This is now corrected.

Use one of these.

The input lag is from these is VERY small, as long as your HDMI monitor has a good display lag rating, it will be basically unnoticeable (less than a frame, in my experience).

I use an ASUS VE247, and it works fantastically well.

No I can't. I went through all the settings and there isnt anything on aspect ratio. Its 16:9 1080p

I have two ASUS VS247's and they are pretty much the same monitor except mine doesnt have any speakers built in. Thanks man =)
Also do neoya wii2hdmi ever stretch out the picture or anything? Thats my biggest pet peeve, wrong aspect ratios haha. Im assuming you use one lol

I guess you could try to play Melee on an HDTV, but it'd be better to get a separate SDTV just for the gamecube and old games. Most HDTVs will have at least some input lag with the Wii and gamecube. Personally, I have an SDTV right next to my HDTV. I use the HDTV for my PS4 and my SDTV for the Wii, gamecube, and PS2. If the living room isn't an option for a standard def TV, maybe you could get one in your room, or your man cave in the basement.

Perhaps if your TV rates well on that display lag database, then it will be able to handle Melee. That database is for 1080p games though I believe, so it probably won't be accurate for how much lag it will have with Melee

The monitors will output in 480p mode with black borders on each side.

It will default to a little stretch, but there's actually an aspect ratio control.

Yep. It should be set to 4:3, or it will look kind of funny (but not unplayable).
i looked through all the settings on mine, and atleast while im using HDMI for my pc, there isnt even a greyed out option for aspect ratio

So for the Wii to HDMI converter you linked, can we use other ones? I notice other ones on Amazon are much cheaper but I want to make sure they have negligible lag.

If you'd like to record / stream your matches as well as play on an HDMI monitor, you can use a capture card that has both component and HDMI input/outputs. Two birds with one stone there. That's currently what I do in case no one has mentioned anything similar, though capture cards are more expensive than converters.

Roxio Capture PRO (it's iffy I know, but it works for me) + ASUS VH247 monitor

Setup: Wii -> Component cable -> Capture card -> HDMI -> Monitor
