I rotate every button clockwise on the face of the controller to get a 'slide from top right to bottom left' ergonomic, as with the GCC's X->A. So Y is special, X is mostly unused, A is jump, and B is standard. SHFFing is effortless on 3ds/Pro Controller like that, as you get an easy slide input.
If you have a GCC adapter, or otherwise don't much care for rebinding controls, I've found that rising shorthop aerials are best done with slide inputs-- unlike regular SH aerials where you short hop, let your brain register that you SH'd right, and THEN aerial, instead you slide from jump to attack before even leaving the ground. It takes confidence, since you don't get to do the usual 'hit attack right when you'll hit' sort of method.
