Best Scrub Character?

I have a friend who just decided to pick Melee up. He wants to get good with minimal effort/as quickly as possible, so he asked me which character to pick. I'm assuming he has barely any tech skill and is (probably?) unwilling to go to all the effort to learn all the advanced techniques.

My gut reaction was to recommend Marth; easy edge-guarding, good grabs, easy combos, not a lot of heavy tech-skill, etc.

A couple of friends suggested playing the spacies though (more Fox than Falco). That just seems like a bad idea to me, since they're so tech-heavy, but I dunno.

So, whom do you guys think my friend should play? What's the easiest character to get (relatively) good with, basically?

Id actually say all 3 of those would be hard to gain your basic skill set with. I'd go with more mid tiers and the simple ones. Like ganon/mario/doc/luigi. Those are all fairly straight forward characters. Maybe even peach.

Edit : by no means do i mean to main these characters forever or that they would win more games than if they started with marth or shiek , but i think in the long run they would learn the game faster and thus when the are competent players could switch to marth or shiek or eventually spacies and have a better base skill set. I started with yoshi for 6 months like doc for 2 months and eventually falco after that. I felt like that was better than starting with falco right off the bat.

Oh god not spacies.

Sheik seems like the best bet. Teach him how to downthrow and ftilt and fair properly and thats like half the battle. Marth isn't terrible because his fsmash is so good, but I think being a scrub with Marth won't get him as far as it will with Sheik.

Actually, I vote Jiggs. The extent of the NECESSARY techskill for jiggs is WoP (advancing bairs without turning around) which is mad easy.

@Eggm:

Your logic makes sense, but I get the impression that this guy isn't interested in progressing far enough to become actually good.

kirby takes near no tech skill SHing? why do it? like L-cancel, FF, shoot lasers if they could your way. in least effort possible kirby is best. puff takes spacing skill,SHing, stage control and junk.

but if you play as the easiest you WON'T have any fun. also my marth is more techical than most marths I know that I have more button inputs per a minute at least.(MU depended)

Sheik for anything above "how does i thirdjump!?" for sure. So ridiculous, especially when you can shorthop 100% of the time.

Sheik. Marth and Puff are OK, but sheik is still the better choice.

Falco isn't as bad as people say (side smashing across FD, anybody?) for scrubs; his lasers stun people and he has his side smash. He also has a spike that isn't that hard to land. For scrubs, I'd definitely say that Falco>Fox.

Mario is also good.

I never EVER dash dance and that's why I have many more button inputs than most marths would. I have a mix of WDing and DDing harder patterns to read adding a 2d layer to my game play.

Sheik and Puff are generally pretty easy.

Peach and Marth would also kinda work.

Then I agree with Mario/Doc/Gdorf they also are fairly easy.
