okay, so we all know how unfortunate it is that the 3DS has no official messaging system for the gamers. So, I would like you guys to tell me (and the rest of the community), what you think is the best social communication software for 3DS gamers. I know some use skype, others use kik, and facebook and such. But I've always wanted a messaging system designed specifically for 3DS gamers, you know? I mean there was this one old messaging system that I used to communicate with other players on this really old game called JKA, but I think it is mainly used for computer games. So what do you think? Do you think there will be (or already are) a messaging software designed for 3DS gamers?

God I would love it so much if you could send messages to the people you're fighting, so I can insult people when they completely download me and act cheap.

Well you can display messages in fights with your taunts, but its limited to your 3ds friends

We really should be able to at least message each other after the game. A recent opponents list and request to trade FC message would be a small step in the right direction.

Even the taunt chats arent really communication. Taunts are long enough where if you do them at all without first killing your opponent, youre gonna get whacked before he/she realizes youre just saying something.
During battle chat is kinda impossible without voice (skype, teamspeak, ventrilo, mumble, etc). But there really should be a chatroom in the character select screen AT LEAST between friends. Even in FG i wish i could even though i know people are just going to use it to flame, because i sometimes come across people that i can tell theyre trying but just keep making bad mistakes and i would like to help them, but i cant.

most of the people i friend i try to get on skype. unfortunately nobody has done a call with me yet, even though ive added a few. Usually dont see them again after being added lol.

The Smash community should come up with some kind of universal communications method for online play. For example, me and a friend are agreed that if you taunt at the beginning of a match, we're to assume that you're dropping out after said match, to avoid confusion such as battery dying, internet timing out, or communication errors.

I wish the 3ds had game chat parties with at least your friends.

interesting. I would like that. but I mean the taunting is limited so we can only make so many different messages

I find it weird at how Metroid Prime Hunters had voice chat, but still to this day, Nintendo refuses to allow it in their online lobbies. Also, strangely enough, Prime Hunters chat system worked stupid well.

I just wish I could insult those beating me in some way, to let them know that I think they're terrible human beings and that I wish their 3DS screen snaps in two along with their Circle Pad.

hunters wasn't too bad with communication. though I never really came across many that used it.
I mean at least smash should have something like mario kart 7. before the races you had a list of messages to choose from, though the races usually started before you could say anything

I just wish I could insult those beating me in some way, to let them know that I think they're terrible human beings and that I wish their 3DS screen snaps in two along with their Circle Pad.

You might as well tell them that you'll defenestrate them as well. (Google defenestrate. You're welcome.)

Well, it's the timing on top of the taunt. We also use things like crouching to communicate things like misplays, funny happenings, and other such things. Basically we communicate through crouching, so it's not a very solid method of communication, but it actually usually gets the point across, since people usually know that you just farsed up, it's nice to lay the message out, run on sentence.

Who doesn't know defenestrate. Indubitably the most overrated word in the dictionary.

indubitably

If Nintendo would just give us the f'ing second screen to use for chatting. Slam a virtual keyboard on that, grab your stylus and there you go. You could hide the damage counter + portraits to make the chat visible. This way you could even talk to each other while in the game. Or just make it possible to chat in between matches / during pauses. Also add a "Add as friend" quick access button.
Basic online features seem to be the weakness of smash. Imagine any other game released in 2014 that did not allow you to communicate in any form.@_@

This is exactly the reason we can't have nice things.

I get it, you don't like losing, you've posted about this constantly. But the issue isn't them, it's you, insulting them is ridiculous.

Well, we're working with what we've got. It is pretty silly of Nintendo to not include any kind of communication. Thankfully, I'm usually playing local with people.

I would hate it, the amount of angry nerds all up in here would ruin the community, i play fighting games on PS3 and most of the time i get rage mail for example.

"You spammur" mainly due to how they dislike how i play or they curse me out, wanna know how they get to this point? Cuz they lost, imagine you beating someone and they beat you and you both have close matches, you leave the lobby due to life then you come back on and you get a message saying
"lol **** you *****" or "yeah run away".

Not to mention messages such as "you suck" honestly i'm glad Nintendo doesn't allow this option, just play the game and leave it you don't need to communicate with each other and if we did have the option i guarantee we'd just be talking smack to each other due to some people getting buttblasted when they lose.

Behold, there is an option to satisfy everyone, including those who had bad experiences with humans online and don't want to talk at all: disable the existing messaging system. If there was one to begin with, it would be easy to make it something like this:

- communication between players functions through "mail". When not playing, players can send messages to other players they know the name of
- as a user, you may set options like "Do not receive messages", "Receive messages from friends only", "Receive messages from everyone".
- additionally, there should be features like "Block user" / "Report user" (for abusive language)
- after playing, the game could show a context menu. It shows "recently played with" and then the last xx users, and a "send friend request" button. If the other player wants to, you can now be friends and chat! If not, you should be blocked to be asked again, at least for some time, so no invite spamming happens.

I think this would be a much nicer solution than plainly disallow any form of communication between players, even friends. The problem is, Nintendo is a honey badger, and honey badger dun care!
