Best buttons for short hop?

Love using X/Y for short hop on the GC controller and ProU controller. Tried to use the shoulder buttons on both for jumping, but can not short hop reliably. I did have some luck with R on the ProU, but no other shoulder buttons. Do I just need to wear them in or is it something with the way the shoulder buttons work vs the abxy buttons? I do want them on shoulder buttons, I think. I just want to be able to short hop on demand. And use the ProU controller. Together.

Jump on shoulder buttons?? Never heard something like that. Personally, I would find that quite uncomfortable so I just stick to X/Y for jumping.

I am not sure how durable shoulder buttons are but I think they are less durable than face buttons.

Whatever works for you I guess.

Why not assign jump to a face button AND a shoulder button? You could use one for short-hopping and one for full jumping as you see fit.

Different layouts work for different people. I personally use z on the gc controller for both short hopping and full jumps. In addition to just being a comfortable button for jump to me, I find how it doesn't press down very far really useful for short hopping.

I will have to give that a shot. Still figuring out which controller I want to use.
