I've watched competitive Melee for a solid year now and I've decided to pick up Captain Falcon because I like his style of play and I feel that I can get him to fit my style perfectly. Now, I can wavedash and L-Cancel, but what are other techniques/ methods of practice I can try out. I would like to make this thread about improving new falcons since the Falcon Forum isn't too keen about this.

Movement is your best friend. If you don't have good movement, you won't be good. It's the key to a Falcon's success. Get good with wavedashing/surfing/landing, pivots, and controlling your jump. Once you get good at those, you'll be good at Falcon. It's the core of his play.

Even though moonwalking is cool don't focus on that at first. Make sure you get your fundamentals completely down. I know you said that you can l cancel and wavedash but make sure you can do it perfectly as well as learning these new techniques.

If you have access to 20XX, I'd also recommend putting on infinite shields and practice your L-cancel timings on various shields, full, light, ICs shields, etc. It's good practice and a common way to miss an L-cancel.

Learn your percents for you combos off of a grab on every character. If you get a grab, it should be some major damage.

And yeah, movement. Especially at the ledge. Know all your aerials from ledge, wavelanding, haxdashing, fastfall the wavedash off stage, the list goes on. Falcon is one of the best characters at the ledge so use that to your advantage!
