Apple Corps, MTV Games and Harmonix have just announced a brand new music video game featuring the music of the Beatles. This is not an expansion pack for Rock Band or a Rock Band-branded game. This is a brand new game entirely focused on The Beatles that will take players all the way through The Beatles' first album (Please Please Me) to the last one (Abbey Road).

Alex Rigopulos of Harmonix revealed they have been working for months in this game (parties involved started talks 17 months ago) and he defined this project as a one-lifetime opportunity.

Giles Martin, the son of Beatles producer George Martin, will serve as music producer on The Beatles music video game. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison representing their husbands, have provided their input on this project.

The companies won't confirm the platforms The Beatles music video game will ship for or if new gaming gear will be released along with the game. However, MTV and Harmonix confirmed the game will be released in holiday of next year.

Jeff Jones, CEO of Apple Corps, confirmed this is an exclusive deal signed with MTV Games, so there won't be Beatles song coming to Activision's Guitar Hero.

Despite what the link name implies, it's going to be its own game, not a portion of Rock Band. It also appears to be an exclusive deal, so you likely won't be able to export the songs and use them as Rock Band DLC, or will the Beatles be popping up in other music games like Guitar Hero or Rock Revolution.

More details as they come! I'm super excited about this.

"I'm a ginormous Beatles fan and I always hoped I would never see the day when their music showed up in Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Like... they're just too good for those cheap thrills."

What are you quoting? Did you just put your own words in quotation marks for no reason?

Anyway, I don't think I'm a big enough Beatles fan to get this game, but we'll see how it turns out. If they do some really innovative stuff, then I'll look into it closer to release.

So the Beatles get their own game? Sweet. I'm kinda happy about this since we're guaranteed quite a bit of songs.

I read about this a couple minutes ago. I was hoping for some tracks on either RB2 or GH, but this is too good for words. I am definitely buying this game.

Also: I kind of like how Paul, Ringo, Olivia, and Yoko have put some input into this.

Interesting...

I'll see how this turns out. I love the Beatles, and love playing their music on REAL guitars, but I don't see how it would be fun to play this on a Rock Band/Guitar Hero type set-up.

So how much money will Michael Jackson make off of this?

When they make a game about the Replacements or Ramones, then they got my attention to buy it.

neversoft does have metallica next year though...

Regardless, I agree with hemightbegiant, I can't see the beatles as a game. It just doesn't feel right.

Well, at least Guitar Hero gets Wings...

And yeah, not all of the Beatles' music will work, e.g. Strawberry Fields Forever.
