The Samus shocked me as well, never expected the grapple to be used like that.
Anyways, according Roith's guide:

jab cancel - This is were you cancel all lag from a jab and flow into other moves
this is done by pressing shield in the last few frames of A atk or AA atk.

Try that.

has a video and says it is done by crouching, so if the first does not work try that one

sorry but that guide is EXTREMELY dated...and the other one sucks...I believe it's pressing down...not shield

i know i was supposed to be watching the Ike player, but i couldn't keep my eyes off that Samus. my thumbs would be screaming in agony after all those SH'd missles and grappling shots. just the same, the Ike player was fantastic with his shield.

that was a match well-played on both accounts.

EDIT: I think I know how to do that jab cancel...If any of you start an online match as Ike, hold A. It looks like that's what happened here.
