that's right, boys and girls, a new game series was made for the old school NES: Battle Kid, an indie Homebrew series by Sivak games. the first game, Battle Kid, Fortress of Peril, was released o the NES back in 2010,and a sequel Battle Kid:Mountain of Torment, is set to release this fall.

the basic gameplay of the series is like Megaman meets Metroid, and it it quite fun to play. be warnded though, this game is tough, even making it onto Screwattack's list of the 10 hardest NES games. not surprising, since the creator was inspired by I Wanna be The Guy, the most ridiculously hard game ever. but compared to that game,it isn't so hard, but that's still like saying cutting off your toe is less painful then cutting off your foot. trust me, I've played the demo, and it can be quite brutal on some parts.

speaking of, here is an online Demo for both games the creator released, for those who wanna try it out on an emulator.

and here is where you can buy the first game.

I think he was more than just inspired by I want to be the guy. The playable character looks exactly like him

I remember when this came out a while back. I've never been a big fan of the "beat the quarters out of them" mentality that comes hand in hand with the NES. I don't know, if they ever release it as a download I might give it a shot.

It looks like a mix of old game styles and what have you, but were IWBTG embraces them as it's design, this is more like 'oh, so this is this games version of game X's level, boss, weapon etc.'

I tried playing the demo for the first game. I have no idea if my PC controller is finally getting old or if its the game itself but I swear the god the jumps are nowhere near as responsive as they should be.

^ have yet to test it out on my 360 controller(probably will do it today), but from my keyboard it seems to respond fine.
it feels like the jumping style of megaman, to me(god it would have been hell if it was the GnG style)

The reason it's called Battle Kid and not Battle MAN is because it uses Mega Man jumping instead of Castlevania jumping

I want to find the man who programmed the jumping physics in Castlevania 1-3 and punch the crap out of him. You can cite Egoraptor's video all you want, but those physics are pure BS.

I played the first Part of the series and it was hella fun, I love the fact that there is still a fanbase behind the NES that programs and produces stuff like that.

Also it's great that they include a chip so it works on all NES Versions.. not that most Europeans don't own an US-NES anyways since that wasn't the case 20 years ago..
