Bair vs dair

I've always found the bair to be a little bit awkward as it doesn't seem to be an amazing combo move and feels more sluggish than the fair, and also seems to have a wonky hitbox.

Recently I've been trying to use the back end of the dair to hit people behind me instead of the bair. It's a little slower, even l-canceled, but it's harder to crouch cancel, stuns them and usually sends them up at a better angle than the bair for a combo start.

Any thoughts?

The Dair is fairly laggy so I wouldn't suggest it. One use of the Bair is that it turns Marth around mid-air which lets you immediately follow up with a fair.

Superdoodleman's frame data says the dair is only four frames slower...

Also, the bair is 39 frames, and a shff from Marth is 28 frames, so even if you execute it the moment you leave the ground, you still won't be turned around.

I wasn't referring to using the bair to fair while doing a SHFFL, I was talking about a full hopped bair to a fair. It is impossible to go from a bair to a fair in a single short hop.

i thnk bair would be better wen edge guarding, unless the other guy has a laggy third jump, then i guess a ledge hop dair would be better. when fighting on land, dairs are definetly more laggy, but they knock the opponent back, right? so if l-cancelled, you could probably get back up and shield in time.

its okay. i like to dair out of shield to fsmash sometimes, but it's entirely situational. i dont think you should be attacking people behind you, anyways. just hit the analog stick to face the person and fair them instead.

You can sh a bair and dbj into a fair before you hit the ground. You can actually get part of the fair animation out without dbj but not in time for any hitboxes.
