So I've yet to install 1.0.6 because I see my main got a big nerf. I'd like to back up 1.0.5 before installing 1.0.6 in case I want to revert.
i dont know how the wii u files system works, so I'm hoping someone here does. is there a way to move/copy files system stuff to sd card, or is making a physical copy of the entire internal hard disk the only option? thanks for any feedback

I don't think that's possible, if it is, it's likely not worth the hassle. There's no point in not updating, honestly. If your character got significant nerfs it's likely it was required to balance out the game.

If you care about competitive anyway, nobody will be playing on 1.0.5 so there really is no point in staying behind, you're only missing out on content. A lot of it considering Mewtwo and etc;.

I don't think it's possible, you can only get rid the update by switching to an empty SD card.

Edit: I am refering to 3DS version sorry. Wii U version, impossible...

On Wii U there is no way as of now (kinda). I did create this thread:
http://smashboards.com/threads/so-what-happens-when-you-dont-update-smash-bros-wii-u.395750/

for what would happen if you deleted your update files and save files, but no one has an answer (because no one is actually going to delete their save files).

You can test deleting your update data and save file on your Wii U and see if it lets you play it, but there's no guarantees it'll do that. Your other option would be to buy a brand new Wii U and never update your system. It won't be the patch from before hand, but it'll be stock Smash Bros before the patch (aka Little Mac long distance forward b, etc).

Lol seriously?
No need to belittle someone else's opinion. It's the same thing as preferring a previous revision of utorrent compared to the latest.

You "need" the 1.0.6 update to use any of the DLC contents. Also, there's no way that you can downgrade back to 1.0.4 or 1.0.5, and even if there was, you would not be allowed to access your game data until you've redownloaded the newest update.

I don't think this is possible. It's best to have the latest software update to play the game.

I think you can revert to a previous update with the 3DS version, however, I think you need to be a little careful with that in case you corrupt your save data or something.

You can't with the Wii U as far as I know. Eitherway, if you plan to play competitively you would probably need the latest update as that's what most competitive scene's will go with. (At least I'd imagine so, especially now with DLC characters that some players would probably want to use.)

I know right? I saw her rude comment and sighed.
yes I want to back up 1.0.5, did she not catch that by the title?

anyways I'm going to go ahead and take the plunge, since online play is more important to me right now than the slight edge I'll lose vs my buddies taking the update.
thanks to those who gave helpful feedback!

I don't believe it's possible for the wii u as everyone else has stated, but there may be an action replay code or something similar for 3ds as Curious Villager pointed out.

Why is that? You'll have to explain yourself.
I'm not them so please forgive my being rude, but in terms a of a torrent client you're not impacting functionality or the experience of other users by installing a previous version. For this game, what some viewed as the most broken character was brought down a few pegs and a new character was added. As a result anyone else playing on the unpatched game would be hampered and essentially playing a slightly different game. Now if jmjb just wanted to play single player that wouldn't really impact anyone else and my point would be entirely moot, but it sounds like he just wants to destroy all his friends with unpatched Diddy so...

I reread his posts and he stated

Don't worry, you aren't being rude. :)

Doesn't really sound like he's wanting to destroy/trash, but that really isn't an issue even if he was. He loses his functionality to online mode, and the only way it impacts other players is in person. Either way, It's still opinion based on either or not one should update their game, even if it's the general consensus thing to do, there are consensus outside of the norm and it's not really that selfish to want to keep your character good since you have no control over it with these patches, and sometimes people just liked how a certain character played.

I'd say although it would effect people who played, it would be no different than playing two weeks ago in that effect. And if people keep up with Smash updates, they would spot it anyway and people don't actually have to play him if they don't want to.

I feel for the most part this doesn't actually impact others on a grand level as this won't be used in a tournament environment.

In case people don't understand my last post, if you update Smash 3DS and access your game data afterwards, you "have" to have the newest update downloaded. If you delete the update, and try to access your game data, the game will not let you, and you'll have to play a new game, which never saves. Once the update is reinstalled though, then you can access your game data again.

In other words, if you update to 1.0.6, you can't use any of the older updates anymore.
