The IRC shouldn`t be on there.
Shears` (which could be redone if wanted) compilation post covers the Map and ELO so those are redundant.

Index, Social, Map (so new players can get added) Ask a Question, Calendar.

The other threads should be referenced in the index.

items that should be removed: irc chat, 64 elo rankings (way out of date), shears website, gameshark codes. all of these can be linked in the index

I think there can be some consolidation but I think index, ask a question, social, and map are definitely necessary to be stickied and then everything else in a consolidation stickied thread. The thread I created that includes the website and more can have the other things like the calendar, irc, etc. included. Gameshark codes and Elo are already included in my consolidated thread. Links to the discussion threads for each as well as the OP for each can be included in the OP of the consolidated thread (which is already titled to have everything in it and "much much more"). Basically:

Index
Ask a Question
Find Players
Social
Tournaments, 12CB, Frame Display, Rankings, Gameshark, Elo, Calendar, IRC, and much much more

Edit: I guess the everything else thread could be linked in the index reducing it all to 4 threads. Someone needs to update that index. @ Madao Madao @Warchamp7 there should be a way for moderators to change edit permissions of a post to grant it to another user for instances when the author is banned or retired. Basically change the post owner to a different user.

Edit again: The "website" thread is more than the website thread. It links other sites including the player world map. Certainly most of the links are to things on supersmashbros64.com but its only linking relevant and useful tools. If anyone wants any other threads or sites linked I'd certainly update it to include them. Any other tutorials, guides, or anything can be included.

I'm honestly fine with the current sticky threads. Hardly anyone reads the index, so I'm not sure if it's best to unstick all those threads.

I don't think I can do that anymore, but I can edit anyone's post in this section. I know admins are able to change thread ownership though. If you're talking about the Index thread, I don't think it needs a new owner, unless M!nt retired.

i just feel there are too many stickied threads. the whole point of sticky kind of loses its mean if you have 9+ threads stickied. please like if you agree

I'll be honest, not all of them need to be up there imo, but there are enough people who wish for them to be there. I'm pretty sure that having more threads stickied also means more threads on page 1. Not to say that there should be 20 threads stickied, but there's at least some incentive to having 8 or 9 threads stickied, rather than 4 or 5. Especially when people's opinions differ, it seems more fair to have extra threads stickied rather than less.

If people actively read the index thread, I'd be more in favor of unsticking certain threads.

It evens says, "(READ HERE FIRST)" but that doesn't seem to quell the newcomers' questions. They could at least ask in the ask a question thread, "Where do I find ___?" or "How do I do ____ ." or anything like that and I wouldn't mind pointing them in the right direction. Sadly, we live in an age where an entire index isn't enough. You have to spoon feed a lot of info to people because their attention spans aren't that good. Not every newcomer is lazy but there are a lot of them.

@ Shears Shears being the diplomatic one as usual. Well said.
Glad this open question prompted rational discussion and progress as usual.

The index should be super duper ultra mega heavy metal highlighted and stickied in ALL CAPS swagged out with glowing neon arrows pointing to it.

never been to those boards and never will.
I went to every single section to try and find ones that also had a ton of stickies and then found melee and smash 4. It was my first time there and let me tell you, it was an awful, terrible, no good, very bad place. Just going into the forum you could smell the melee kids.

Its funny you say that but its actually a useful technique. I designed this checkin app for patients to basically fill out their paperwork electronically and the app has a series of pages that it goes through each asking different questions. I first designed it with a button that said "Next" on the bottom however that was ineffective because people still didn't know what to do. Elderly people and other careless lazy people didn't care to read or even think about what to do next so it never occurred to them to click the "Next" button and instead ended in a timeout where they never progressed through the checkin. Thinking about it I thought maybe the button was too small so I made it bigger and capitalized it so it said
"NEXT". This proved to be mildly effective but there were still a majority of people that couldn't figure out what to do next after they finished answering the questions on the page. So I kept thinking about it and trying to figure out how I could get people to naturally click the button in a way that required no explanation and even elderly or mentally disabled people could figure it out. Then one day I got a call from my cousin who said she had a virus on her computer and it didn't work. Inspecting her computer and asking her how it happened it turned out she saw a big flashing bright ad on a website saying her computer wasn't secure and she had a virus. Being an idiot like ~100% of the world population, she clicked the ad and downloaded a virus. This made me realize what happened here and noticed how almost all spam is bright and flashing and catches the eye. For years I thought "Why do these people make it so flashy and bright, its obvious its a virus and no one ever clicks it" however I was thinking like the ~0% of intelligent people on the planet and failed to realize that these people make spam flashy and bright because it actually works. So the next day I made the button bright and flashy and then immediately everyone started clicking it without much thought or explanation. It was natural for them to just click it because it caught their eye and they just had to touch it, like a fly going towards a fly zapper or someone walking into the light. Amazed by this I thought that perhaps people weren't reading the button at all and simply clicking it because it was flashing (I came to this hypothesis because people clicked it way too fast to read). So I decided to try out a social experiment where I changed the button from saying "NEXT" to saying "DON'T CLICK". Few people actually read the button and didn't click it and instead needed instruction and convincing to click it however; most people, even with the button saying "DON'T CLICK", still clicked it simply because it was flashy and bright. I then changed the button back to say "NEXT" but it made me realize that if you want someone to click or read something, make it bright and flashy. You could literally have it say "CLICK THIS AND YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR MONEY AND THE UNIVERSE WILL EXPLODE" and sure enough, people will mindlessly click it. Have I lost hope for planet Earth and the human race? Yeah a long ****ing time ago. Did I learn something valuable though? Yes, if you want people to do something assume they are mindless unconscious insects that will be brainwashed very easily to do anything as long as its presented bright and flashy and sparkly. Humans do not have free will, they are merely a ball rolling down a hill. The conscious decisions they make are just an illusion and instead are trapped in perpetual motion and move along thanks to gravity and bright flashy objects. You want people to click the index thread? Don't have something that requires reading, have it bright and flashy and big and they will unconsciously click it without resistance. Humans are stupid and I cannot wait for the robot apocalypse.
