Watch when Shulk recovers. It doesn't look like he autosnaps to the ledge. Am I crazy here?

Edit for clarity: When Shulk uses his Up B, he doesn't grab the ledge immediately. In Brawl, he would have automatically snapped to it on his way up.

This not a official video, so I don't think the mechanic is real.

I remember seeing Zelda'a up B have a nice autosnap to a ledge.

So it's at least situational .

Whilst it may be removed in later builds of the game, autosnapping ledges was definitely in the E3 demo.

Make of that what you will.

"auto-snap" was never really a mechanic; ledges just have differently sized grabboxes in the various games and different moves have different ranges and timings from which they can grab. Smash 4 as a whole seems in-between Melee and Brawl on this point, but in all games, you'll be able to construct cases of crazy ledgegrabs that don't seem like they should work or cases where you are just frustrated at why you didn't grab that ledge.

He actually does snap to the edge, it's just a bit later then say, Marth, would do so.

This not a official video, so I don't think the mechanic is real.
It's the video the smash developers sent to esrb, so this is real gameplay.

The game has been rated since E3, therefore this footage must be from before then. It is probably safe to say this does not represent the final game.

Guess characters only ledgegrab after an attack has finished executing

Edit: But Shulk wasn't in Brawl?

It could just be the mechanics of the move in specific, though. We don't know anything about it, to be honest. All we know is that it looks like Marth's, but it could be drastically different (the situation in which it's presented leaves no room for horizontal movement, nor do we know it's mechanics anyway.) It could just be part of the animation doesn't allow for auto-snapping, or it could just be glitchy (like Toon Link's ledge-grabbing was in Brawl, especially on stages like Pokemon Stadium 2.)

Okay, even though it is a real gameplay, honestly I don't want Bowser Jr, Duck Hunt Dog in Smash Bros. Perhapes this is just an experimental gameplay, so we don't know if they will be in the final game.

In Brawl you can actually bypass the autosweetspotting if you hold down on the controller stick while doing a move that approaches you to the ledge. The only thing weird, is that a CPU made that input :ohwell:

But I suppose the more important question here: it possible to edgeguard this? (Or at least easier than Marth's?)

Edit: But Shulk wasn't in Brawl?
Well, no. I'm just assuming that it would've worked the same as Marth's. Which I suppose we don't really know.

Why would they put them in just for experimental gameplay? There's plenty of characters in this game, play as the others. Let the people who want these characters enjoy them. Denial will not help you.

I was looking at the footage for a long time and I realized something, when he does it, he doesn't seem to curve like Marth, it's hard to tell for sure since he was right next to Yoshi's Island and the camera, but I think he just goes straight up. I could be wrong though.

Interesting. I thought the balance between the two version extremes might have been either backwards grabbing+auto sweetspot and -snap to the ledge.

I'm not complaining though, sweetspotting the ledge is something that took a while to learn and even then it had it's downsides due to the way the edge works in at least melee. They could simply hold onto the ledge (makes total sense, if somebody is on the ledge why would you be able to grab it.)

But I guess no auto sweetspotting+Ledge replacement mechanic makes it so recovering isn't as simple as Jump or up b then snap into place replacing anybody who happens to be there. You have to learn your character now and how far your move goes to get the ledge right. You can still grab backwards I assume, as much as it makes my love for Mario Cape plays cry inside. No idea why the cape retained the usage of only turning around the opponent if you can grab the ledge backward. It should've put them in a state where they can't grab the ledge+facing away. Or something like that. Cape plays were part of the reason I enjoyed watching doc or mario in melee. Much like Fox shine you had to place it just right and if you did you took a stock.

Don't care I hate leaks, especially this one, okay I know this is not a leak discussion thread but tell you the truth, I know this video is real but I just don't like this roster if the leak characters have been revealed.

We'll have to see in the final version, but on the whole I prefer sweetspotting on most of my recovery moves. Whether it's automatic or takes good aim can vary by move.

That's right, we have to know that it is not final, so characters(nuff said), don't really take some of the mechanics like it is the final version.
