Hey guys, my name is Blake, I'm 17 and I'm from Melbourne, Australia which in itself poses a huge problem for me. I don't know any smashers that play the game at a higher level than just casual. I love melee and want to get very good at the game and really want to improve myself but with the lack of smashers and tournaments in Melbourne I really don't know what I can do to continue to get better. I know that playing against CP's all the time is bad for my game and I will develop bad habits so I spend most of my time practicing my tech skill and movement. I know that it will only get me so far so I want to know if there is anything I can do to continue to improve my game until I am old enough to go to America and spend some time smashing there. I would appreciate it massively if anyone could help me out at all, all smashers have our troubles and I know we have a great community here, so if anyone can help me in any way I would be incredibly thankful!

There's definitely a tournament scene in Melbourne, in fact there's going to be a monthly tournament this Sunday.

Here's the Victorian FB group.

I was once in a position where I thought that no tournament scene existed in Australia, well I was obviously wrong. I didn't know anyone of high skill before I first attended tourneys in May. Any player of any skill is welcome, including casual. Everyone is super friendly / chill, so don't worry about anything.

If you decide to come in on Sunday, just BYO controller, some cash, water & food, and read/study a bit of the ruleset, and you should be fine. If you're unsure of anything just ask away, people are happy to help.
