The culprit seems to be W01 ("Princess Peach's Castle (Melee)", the 2nd song to appear in the songlist).
I've already tried three methods, all of which resulted in the same results:
* Using WiiScrubber to replace the songs into a DVD5 iso
* Using WiiScrubber to replace the songs into a DVD9 iso
* Riivolution using a retail copy of the game
Rainbow Ride (Rainbow Cruise in the U.S.) utilizes two songs, W01 and W02. If you audio-swap both, W02 will play just fine if you boot up the stage. If the game randomly selects W01, however, the game freezes at the stage selection menu (from here, one of two things can happen: either there's silence or the song plays, but the game remains frozen).
If you go into My Music and try to go into Rainbow Ride's sub-menu, the game freezes before even loading the sub-menu.
I used to experience the same problem for Battlefield's songs. However, after re-cutting and re-encoding every single song all over again, I could load up the Battlefield sub-menu. However, if I tried to scroll down to W23 ("Multi-Man Melee 1 (Melee)", the 5th and last song in the songlist), the game froze. So I simply replaced W23 and, for good measure, also W21 ("Battlefield (Melee)"), the 4th song in the songlist, with entirely different songs. Now the Battlefield songs work like a charm.
So I tried to do it with Rainbow Ride. In fact, I even used a different rip of the same song, re-cut it, re-encoded it and re-added it. W01 still freezes. So I tried swapping W01 with W02 and vice versa. old!W02 (now W01) froze the game while old!W01 (now W02) plays like a charm! I even tried swapping W01 and W02 out with two entirely unrelated songs which are already on two other stages, both of which play just fine on these other stages. W01 still freezes!
So it's just W01 that the game seems to have a problem with audio swapping, for some bizarre reason!
So, does anybody have any idea what the problem is here and how to fix it? Has anyone else experienced the same problem? Or has anyone managed to audio swap W01 out just fine? Also, what version are you people using if you're succeeding in/failing to audio swap W01?
