Astonishing! Skip no contest screen and character/stage selection?

Though unintentional, this is actually really amazing and helpful! So I was playing a normal match of Project M--Versus mode, picked my character, picked a CPU to fight + a stage, and well...faught! I was off to a pretty embarrassing start and knowing I could do better, I quit the match. Expecting the "No contest" screen to appear and then have me go through the character and stage select screens, instead, I was almost instantaneously respawned with the counter going from "3" to "GO!" and fighting again in the blink of an eye!
No "no contest", no character or stage select, just an immediate restart of the match. I have never seen this before in all the times I've played. I attempted it again and again trying to pull it off but no luck. Does anybody know what could have happened??
