Assistants and Bosses are a lot more like fighters in this game.

Has anyone else noticed this? Back in Brawl, you couldn't do much to assistant characters. Now you can get a few hits on them, and possibly even take them down. They're more like fighter/enemy hybrids now, and I'm starting to belive this is the remains of whatever Sakurai said about them (or probably said about them since translations sometims get messed up) being included in All-Star Mode. It would have been cool to battle some of these assistants in my opinion.

Oh, and then we've got the stage bosses/hazards. Nabbit and the Flying Men can be grabbed (not sure about this one, but I recall grabbing Nabbit) and KO'd like normal fighters. Ridley can be KO'd too. Maybe they were planned to appear in All-Star Mode in some form as well? It makes sense considering there aren't enough bosses for a Boss Rush.

I suppose All-Star Mode might have ended up being too massive with so many enemies, though I do like the idea of having more Nintendo characters to battle. Hopefully we see this concept revisited in the future.

I don't really think they were meant to appear outside of where they currently appear. I see it most likely that you can hit/grab/ko them so that there's actual counter play to them, instead of "oh, your opponent got this, have fun being hit without anything you can do." Specifically in that the most interactable ones are the stage hazards, it's probably so that you can actually do something about it, like how you can avoid other stage hazards, such as the cannon on Halberd, or Dialga on Spear Pillar. People getting hit without a chance to get hit back really isn't fun for them, and being able to do something makes it more fun.

Really only the Flying Man , Ridley, and nabbit were programmed around the game's engine than assists.
You can only really hit the stronger / harder to avoid assist trophies, otherwise waluigi wouldn't lack collisions.

I do find that comment about the game's All-Star mode peculiar, as it's plainly obvious that Assist Trophies have absolutely no influence on All-Star. I fact, I don't think I've ever seen an Assist Trophy in that mode.

Of course that's fine, because it means I can still cling to some of them being promoted through DLC.

Has there been an interview here Sakurai elaborates on this? I just remembered his words form the April Direct, and now I'm wondering why AT's don't factor into All-Star Mode.

Nope. Hopefully we see a question about what he really meant one day.
