Assist Trophies, arguably the coolest items ever, yet we know so little about them. We have 10 confirmed on the Dojo, and a handful more reported from E for All, but I'm beginning to believe that we've only scratched the surface of AT's in Brawl!
I think we will be looking at nearly 50-60 Assist Trophies!
Yeah I know I was a little shocked at first too, but listen
I came to this figure by thinking about AT's in two ways.
First I compared them to Pokeballs. Since the two items are so similar I think we can expect to see around the same number of pokeballs as AT's in Brawl.
In 64 we had 13 different Pokemon, that number was increased to 29 in Brawl. That's over 100% increase even before you consider that 4 pokemon were completely removed, giving us 20 new pokemon.
If we expect a similar increase from Melee to Brawl then we will be looking at 50-60 pokemon, which could translate to the same number of Assist Trophies.
Secondly (and here it gets a little complicated) I tried to figure out how many AT's each Series would receive.
I assume that the more playable characters a Series has the more AT's they will have. (This seems self explanatory. I mean does anyone think that Mario and Zelda won't have the most AT's?)
With that in mind I created a chart for how many AT's I expected each series to get:
*disclaimer this list does reflect some of my beliefs about what series are getting new characters but I've tried to mostly stick to what we all ready know
This gives us 22-30 Assist Trophies just for the series we know are in the game all ready.
Of course we can assume that at least a few series are added with new characters, so this number will probably rise.
Leaving about 15-20 trophy slots for other nintendo series. We all ready have 8 ( not sure on this, still unsure how many AT's we learned about from E for all), so I don't think it's out of line to expect roughly double that number when Brawl releases.
This leaves us right back around my prediction of 50-60 Trophies.
So whats the point of all this you might ask?
I'm hoping that with this framework it will be easier to come up with some good predictions about who's going to make the cut as an assist trophy.
Anyway my wild speculation is done for the night, hope you've all enjoyed
