Okay so me and my friend have been arguing whether you should turn on items or not

He said "Well if you turn on items your a skrub" to which i replied "You call it noob play, i call it 'Tactical use of the games mechanics'."

And now were asking the opinions of everyone who plays it and i think that (maybe) somewhere out there someone plays with items on.

Probably the wrong place, yes.
And no items, please. The community has had this arguments billions of times on this site alone, probably. Items are random and faster characters get a very clear advantage from using them. Also, Smash 4 items are the worst. The amount of them that have the potential to instakill is grotesque.
Not that there's no tactical use for them, but they do make the game unfair.

When it comes to casual play whether or you use items is completely up to personal preference. But in competitive play they're just not an option. We used to play with items back in the mists of 2005 but after enormous discussion and consideration we as a community decided that items just added too much of a random factor to be used outside the living room.

Not the right place, but I'll give my two cents on it before closing the thread.

It's true that you can make an argument that items can be used in a tactical way, but if you're aiming for actual competitive play, don't turn them on. There's no shame in enjoying items, but it really depends on what your goal is for why you're playing. The direction for competitive Smash play is pretty much set in stone. If you're looking to enter tourneys one day, I'd turn them off. If only one of you is while the other isn't, well I've been there before. All you can do is compromise by switching items on/off.

Edit: In advance, I wouldn't really repost this thread in the Smash 4 section or anything like that. SWF is pretty much a hub for competitive Smash, so you'll pretty much get a unanimous answer and the thread might be closed anyway
