Smash 3DS Are you expecting different tiers for normal games and smash run?

I can see some characters who aren't as good in normal games be very viable in Smash Run, thanks to, for example, mobility

Thoughts?

Considering that Custom Moves / Equipment can be used in Smash Run and that wasn't decided yet if it will be allowed in normal matches (and I think it won't), there will be different tiers for both modes.

Smash Run probably will have speed and strong (that carry more itens) characters in higher tiers.

Heavy characters can carry more items
Heavy characters are never quick...

I don't think Smash Run will have a tier list,at least not an official one since it's not going to be a competitive mode. Obviously they will be vastly different if anyone ever makes a Smash Run tier list.

I don't think a cohesive tier list could be made for Smash Run because the outcome of stat power-ups will always be different. Literally the worst character in the game could be made into a powerhouse with the right stat boosts.

I meant speed AND heavy characters. Sorry for that. I'll edit my post.
First one who comes to my mind is Samus tbh

She's not slow af like Bowser and Donkey Kong

But she can still carry stuff

Some characters will have less problems getting those stat boosts though...

Basically this.

I think, too, spawn points and overall randomness will mean that characters who are quick and consistent movement will likely be better than slow characters. It probably won't vary all too much, because typically faster characters with good movement are strong in tiers anyway.

Sigh...I guess I wasn't able to express myself.

I meant both type of characters. Not one character that shares both of stats. Characters like Bowser(strong) and Sonic(speed) will probably be in the tier.
Those characters will focus on the stats that they have less and will quickly get ahead.

English is not my native language, sorry again.

Probably, but knowing the smash community, a tier for this mode will show up eventually, even it being a fun mode.

EDIT: Damn, double post...

Agreed. Too much RNG to base a tier on.

Ohhhh
Well, English isn't my native language either, so I should be apologizing!

Anyway, interesting thoughts

If this is the case then the tier list will be based around the characters who have the best options to get the most powerups on average.

Of course, the two measure entirely different things. Of course, it will also depend on what criteria you use to judge victory in a round of Smash Run. If it's strictly off the end result, then odds are that a character that is high tier in the regular game may be similarly high tier in Smash Run. However, if you also allocate points for other metrics like powerups collected, enemies killed, treasures found, and so on, then it becomes easier to distinguish between characters for separate properties.

I was going to say something along the lines of "No one's ever compiled an item play tier list," but now I'm wondering if they have.

It's funny people claiming Smash Run not to be competitive mode even though the game wasn't even released yet.

It is even funnier when you realize we are in a Smash Bros-related forum.

Anyway, if Smash Run tournaments happen in the future (and I really hope they will), it is very likely that a tier list will be created.

Tournaments will happen because anyone with a bit of spare time could set up an online one at least, but if you think that anything besides standardized no items play is going to really catch on competitively you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

I've only played fast characters in the Smash run demos, so it's hard to say. Having special moves that also propel you and attacks with decent range seemed to be the most effective abilities. Greninja's Shadow Sneak and Little Mac's leaping punch were very useful for clearing areas quickly and collecting powerups.

I'm calling it: shulk is god tier

He can can change to jump, speed and power (3 different end games, all three with different needs)

This was my brother's gut reaction to Shulk's trailer. He said, "With Monado Speed and Jump, he's going to dominate Smash Run," seconds after the trailer ended.

Concerning carrying, characters with hammerspace should get more items (like infamous Link).

I personally can't really see someone making a proper tier list out of this since it's such a random mode, but I've learned to never doubt hardcore gamers.

I don't really expect competitive smash run to catch on to the point where it'll be necessitated, but if it does then absolutely.

Well tier lists in general are speculation based off of ceetain character's performance in the mode, so I don't think it would be that hard to make a tier list for Smash Run. Personally since I'm such a big fan of the mode going in as long as it doesn't turn out to be terrible I could see myself keeping track of a psuedo-tier list in my spare time.
