I've already talked extensively about how I feel in Nintenzone's thread on this, so I'll just quote my own post highlighting my main points.

The NX is not a good idea. Normally, consoles have a life cycle of five years before a new console is released. And normally the old console is supported for a year to two years after the release of the new one.

The Wii U is on year three right now. Releasing a new console next year would be a slap to the balls to every Wii U owner. Yes, the console is under performing but just throwing your arms up in the air and saying "**** IT! Let's just make a new console and try again!" is not the answer.

It probably won't come out until 2017, but the fact that they're willing to announce their plans half way through the Wii U's life cycle is a sign that they've completely given up on the console and as a Wii U owner it really rubs me the wrong way.

Apparently the NX is a new concept that isn't meant to compete in the spheres that 3DS and Wii U operate, so I don't really know what to expect.

I can't be excited for something I know so little about, I'll give a more concrete answer when they reveal it. :p

Nintendo also said the same thing about the DS in regards to its relationship to the GBA. In hindsight, it was pretty obviously always intended to replace to GBA, so we'll have to see how true that statement is next E3.

No.

I don't trust Nintendo to do anything right anymore.

And I have a feeling the NX will have quite an underwhelming and sporadic library for a while.

So, every Nintendo console excluding the NES and SNES?
excluding......

NES
SNES
Game Boy
Game Boy Color
Game Boy Advance
N64
Game Cube
DS

The Wii was the beginning of the "poop" age for Nintendo. It's been extremely hit and miss (emphasis on miss) since then.

LOL no. N64 and GCN had horribly, horribly sparse release schedules and aside from a few titles most of their well-loved games were vindicated years later via nostalgia, people going back and discovering them or giving them a second chance.

Perhaps while you laugh out loud you can go back and look at the chronology of games released for those 2 systems.

Way ahead of you, I've assembled this list dozens of times for the same exact discussion.

Nintendo 64:

1996:

Obviously this isn't a list of all titles that we released, just all major Nintendo published games. Mario 64 was a big deal but aside from that none of these other games even made a dent in the gaming scene at large. Sure, there's Killer Instinct Gold, but that was just the 1996 equivalent to an HD port. Believe it or not, Mario Kart 64 got mixed reviews back in its day.

1997:
'97 was actually a pretty good year for the N64. Star Fox 64, GoldenEye and Diddy Kong Racing were all well received (with DKR often being considered better then Mario Kart). That being said, there's not a whole lot else here that made any particular slashes or were even considered worth playing back then. Yoshi's Story got poor reviews and Bomberman flew under most people's radars. So yeah, year two and there's only a handful of worthwhile games. Sound familiar?

1998:
'98 has two big hitters, Ocarina of Time and Banjo-Kazooie. Also highlights include F-Zero X (which unfortunately was cult even back then) and Mario Part. See anything else worthwhile though? Not really. There's 1080 Snowboarding which was well received but then quickly forgotten but that's really it.

1999:
In '99 we got Mario Party 2, Smash 64, DK64 and that's it. Jet Force Gemini was a Rare game but flew under radars and still isn't really talked about today, Pokemon Snap got average reviews at best despite its modern following and same goes for Pokemon Stadium. At least there's Mario Gulf? Starting to notice a pattern here?

2000:
2000, the final year for big releases on the N64. Honestly, none of these games were particularly big hitters back then (probably because attention was focused on the PS2 and Dreamcast in 2000). Believe it or not, Majora's Mask was not considered a masterpiece at its release like it is now. Back then, the general reaction towards the game was "This is okay and gimmicky" at best. For years it had the reputation of being "the weird Zelda." Paper Mario flew under everyone's radar, Kirby 64 got average reviews, as did Stadium 2 and Mario Party 3. Rare carries the tortch again though with Twooie and Perfect dark being highly praised.

So yeah, tl;dr: There is a reason why the N64 was considered "that console with a few fantastic games a year and nothing else" back in it's day. Most games that are well loved now were considered average back then and most of the heavy hitters only came maybe twice a year if you were lucky. The lack of third party support really hurt the console in the long run too.

I'd do the same thing for GCN, but I'd literally be saying the same exact things. Nintendo consoles are loved in hindsight and are berated while they are current. Such is the way of the Nintendo cycle.

We don't know enough for me to gain any interest. What the NX is, well I don't know. I'm also not too interested to participate in speculation because there's still not enough information for me to truly gauge what this console is.

I also think people shouldn't be worried about the NX coming out soon. I understand the fear of many people's Wii U purchases being invalidated, but from what I'm hearing and from what I'm seeing, the Wii U is probably not going anytime soon. I'm bringing this up because a lot of the people I've talked to about the NX are specifically worried that it'll overshadow the Wii U and their purchase will be redundant.

I'll buy it, but unless it's going to be as, or more powerful than the PS4/XBone I'm not excited for it

I only purchased my Wii U last year and I am not ready to replace it yet. I am not excited for this. I know they said that it isn't going to be something that competes with the Wii U, but that just sounds like PR talk to me.

I'm always interested in new console, period. While I love the Wii U, we know that it has its fair share of problems and that the ideas behind it are fairly behind the times. With the limited success it's been getting, I'm really looking forward to a fresh start. However, since most of the stuff we know about the NX is through patents, my hype isn't quite there yet. Once we get an official unveiling, then I'll be looking forward to it more.

No, not really. I kinda passed the point of believing Nintendo will make good decisions. They'll probably give us something stupid/underwhelming. If they manage to make something good, I'll be pleasantly surprised, but honestly... I'm reeeeeal skeptical.

Once they learn how to reach out to their customers and listen to our voices, they'll start being successful. And this isn't just for consoles, it should be for games too. They should take our ideas into consideration because it's what we want to see from them and we're their customers and it'll be for the betterment of their company affecting many core factors including 'the Nintendo wow factor' in the current video games generation.

Who knows what the new president has up his sleeve with the NX though.

I'll be more excited for this thing if it's actually better than the Wii U. We don't even know what it's supposed to be anyway, so until next year, I'm gonna refrain from being optimistic and wait for more details from Nintendo.

I'm always interested in new hardware, and NX is no exception. I'd be more excited if this rumor gets confirmed to be real, but that's just me. One thing I would be extremely against is releasing it by next year, giving the Wii U a relatively short lifespan in the process, though I am pretty sure it certainly won't happen.

I know it's going to be treated as a stand-alone product that does not compete against both Wii U and 3DS, but other than that, there's not much to say. I'll give my honest opinion(s) about it once it gets revealed.
