I have all these awesome ideas and expectations of Brawl, but what if my wanted character isn't it? What if this feature or that stage isn't in it? The wait has been so long, and it's built up so much anticipation, that we expect it to be perfect. How am I supposed to cope when Brawl doesn't have what I want? I feel like I'm expecting too much. I really don't wanna be let down by it, and by expecting too much, i'm guaranteed to be a little disappointed when it comes out. I really hope my feelings change when I get it, like maybe they didn't include something I wanted, but put in something I never even thought about and it's twice awesome; but, who of you is a little scared that Brawl's not gonna have everything you want? I sure am.

EDIT: Perfect response by ndm508--

Just looking at today's update reminds me of all the good times with the Dojo. How Sakurai has managed to pull giant surprises out of his *** so many times already.

Think about it, before we got the first trailer what were you expecting? Online? sure. More characters and stages? definetly. Improved graphics? without question.

Now we got all that, hell we don't even have all the characters and stages and both lists already trounce melee.

Now think about all the stuff you weren't expecting from Brawl, stuff nobody saw coming:

-Solid freaking Snake, third-parties for Brawl: We all saw Sonic coming, even the haters, there was no way in hell they would put more third-parties in without the blue blur. Sonic's already a bonus, but who the hell saw Solid Snake appearing at the end of that first trailer? Nobody. Sakurai kicked off the hype with a HUGE WTF moment with Snake.

-A huge one-player mode. With a plot. and upgrades. Look at Adventure Mode from the last game, we all expected Sakurai to improve it, but were you seriously expecting that update the Dojo dropped on us? It has cutscenes? Bosses??? R.O.B.?!?! Who expected we'd be duking it out with Raquayza and Petey? Another huge freaking add-on to the game that nobody expected.

Pokemon Trainer: Who saw that coming. Who. This character is absolutley brilliant. Three for one, and the guy you select doesn't even fight, he stands in the background. Of all the characters we talked about on the Boards, from all the shoe-in's to even the joke characters, not one of us was ready for PT. Just goes to show the creative work behind this game.

Stage Builder, Video Recording: And the rest of the online features, we expected online play sure, and no, there is no voice chat, but Smash isn't to blame, the Wii is. Even though the video thing is found in Halo and stage builder is a common thing in games now, but none of us expected it. Simply Amazing.

Music: SERIOUSLY. HOLY CRAP. We have brand new music, which sounds AMAZING. Plus he's giving us the original beats from previous games, hell, from games that we've never even heard of. The soundtrack is already amazing, and there's no doubt there's going to be soooo much more of it. Did you expect the My Music feature? Nope. I don't think so.

Assist Trophies: Now after months and months of knowing of their existence, people whine about them deconfirming characters. But really, Waluigi? Really? Sorry but characters like him are lucky to even get a character model at all. And that's the beauty of assist trophies. Seeing characters in action that we wouldn't see otherwise. I wanted to play Grey Fox as much as the next guy, but hell, I'm just glad to see him at all. And think back to when they were first announced. How amazing of a feature was that? They're like Pokeballs...but..you know...COOL.

And that's all from the top of my head. Now you look at that list. The things you were expecting, the things you didn't expect, and you put that all together, we already had an amazing game to begin with, and we already have sooooooo much more than ANY of us ever expected to. You could take this stuff, just the stuff from the Dojo, and nothing else, and you would have one HELL of a game. But you know what? we STILL have soooo many more things coming our way that we don't even know yet.

So, what I'm trying to say is, no, I will not be dissappointed in the least with this game. All my favorite characters won't be in it, I mean hey, I love Klonoa but I'll be the first to tell you there are a ton more third party guys that deserve a spot over him.

So you may not get everyone you want. but look at what you have already, and stop complaining.

confirmed. Sending supplies.
Think of SSBB as some other killer app. game, like Twilight Princess or Mario Galaxy, that's still awesome but not customizable and diverse to the core. If you think of it that way, you'll be able to rip the plastic off the box, pop in the game, and become dumbfounded by the actual amount of varying awesomeness.

I'm expecting a reasonable amount from Brawl, I'll have to admit. I don't have anything too specific in mind, but from what I've seen throughout all the Dojo updates, I'm expecting this baby to be a gigantic jump from Melee and I expect it to keep my occupied for years to come... I got a Wii mostly just for this, and Mario Galaxy too.

The only favorite character I'm really concerned about is Luigi, but he's the 2nd Mario brother so I can't see why they would dump him, he's pretty important. I just hope they get his body shape and voice right this time, too... he has developed a consistant voice and body shape since Melee, after all.

I had the same feeling while waiting for Halo 3, then again for Galaxy. Both met and surpassed my extremley high expectations, and I am sure Brawl will as well.

What the hell are you worrying about? Are you telling me that if they released it with only what you knew about it in game you wouldn't still love it like your first born?

Children, I have none. Worry for Brawl, I have little. Expectations for Brawl, I have many. This is what I'm saying. Of course I'd love it, but I would have to admit I'd be a little disappointed. Would you seriously be fine with no Geno, Megaman, or Master Chief? Kidding about that last one, but I have always just expected that Brawl will have all of these things and I have realized it may not.

some people, myself included, did suggest Red, but ABSOLUTELY NOBODY thought of the way he is being used. WAY CREATIVE ON SAKURAI'S PART.

And I totally get your point. Smash Bros with a platformer game, the same fighting game, not losing the single player, and everything else. HOLY POOP THIS HONESTLY MAY BE THE BEST GAME SINCE SMB3, AND YES I INCLUDE OOT, the Halo series, and Galaxy in that mix.

I've had this argument with a couple friends of mine. My friends say Smash is only good because those other games exist. I say that Smash is a collaboration of everything that we enjoyed in videogame history, they've taken over twenty years of gaming, from the greatest series in videogames, to create this masterpiece.

I say, they needed all these great games, all these amazing years, to make the masterpiece that is Smash.

Brawl: Greatest Game of all time? I think so.

When I was waiting for Oblivion to come out... I searched websites endlessly to find info on the game...

When the game came out... I practically knew everything and playing the game wasn't nearly as satisfying as it could have been...

I think it's great that Sakurai is keeping so much secret from us... so the game is actually a huge surprise even if we've been eagerly waiting for 2 years...

No problem. I just figure none of us can lose that excitement we have for this game before its even released, it'd be a **** shame, and you see way too much of it already on the boards.

I think the game is gonna be great. Even though it could never be perfect, my guess is that it's about as close as perfect as your gonna get.

The only thing i have been scared of since the start, and i'm still scared of is the 'simplified' gameplay. From what i have seen and heard grabbing the edge is easier, with both tether recovery and for means of edgehogging (heard something about that last movie where DK is grabbing the edge with his 'back' out of a normal jump @ 2:00 / 2:30 or somthing). Also heard the speed of the game is tuned down a bit. Now i'm not saying that that is necesseraly a bad thing, but it did cause some concern.

Yeah, and I almost forgot how much I still love ssb64 and ssbm. Loving those games despite a third successor is pretty hard to come by. Who on earth plays the original Halo now that 3's out? That's the problem with sequels, they are just the same thing with a little more added. The Smash series is different, though- it's better. Each game is similar enough that veteran players can just pick up and play, but different enough that people will still play the old versions for nostalgia's sake. I think people need to remember that Brawl is NOT Melee 2.0, and take joy in that. We are getting an entirely different game (well maybe not entirely), and it's gonna be better than you can ever imagine.

I actually prefer the first Halo because the pistol was so much fun...and the only gun you really ever needed...

anyways, yeah, I'm not fretting the gameplay, they got the core stuff down and i can hop between 64 and Melee just fine. If Brawl feels differently, I guarantee all of us will enjoy it more in the long run, simply because Sakurai's not trying to make them feel different, he's trying to make them BETTER.

im preparing myself to perceive brawl as updated version of melee,,, with much more options and with a gameplay a little dumbed down and not as good as melee... but still enjoyable.

This way i think ill not get dissapointed.

You know... I'm not sure. There is so much hype surrounding this game its really kinda hard to not have overblown aspirations for it. I think after I find out how to unlock the full roster I won't visit the Dojo or any other Brawl related site so I can just get blown away by the sheer awesomeness ndm508 is describing.
