Sonic's announcement and the delay in Japan are a little too close together for my comfort. Is this whole Sonic thing just to distract us as a delay in the US is announced?

"Look over here! Look at the pretty Hedgehog! Never mind mind that delay 'cause you've got Sonic! Smile!"

Yeah.

Anyone else feeling like we might be being cheated here?

No. If the game was delayed, it was inevitable. Also we were clearly getting another 3rd party character sometime soon... The game was due out in 2 months!

We don't know if the game is really delayed in the USA... Me being European, couldn't care less about the delay, I'm getting it in 2008 anyway, but I know it sucks for you guys if it is delayed beyond Christmas.

Today's Nintendo conference in San Francisco, let's see what they have to tell us about release dates and the like...

I definitely felt like the real reason Sonic was released today was to apologize because they are FORCED to let us know that they are changing the release date of the game. He probably knows how long the game will take, too, he just wants to make us suffer... when the date of the game is much later, he'll probably give us more goodies that day as well :p

They should leave it TBD and then a random day be like "SSBB is out now!!" and then see how much chaos ensues at the game stores.

We still dont know if its delayed tho. If Sakurai delayed it, why didnt he mention that in the update? I didnt notice it until I went onto the Smash Boards XD

I think the only reason they changed the US date to TBD was in case something bad happened. Sakurai mentioned completing the game without incident, almost as if something had already happened. They seem to be localizing the game in both english and japanese at once, maybe something came up with the japanese localization and it had to be delayed, and he's not sure if that'll affect the US release yet?

Regardless, if it means that the roster will be another character bigger, I don't mind just a month...

But, yes, I do feel like both revealing Sonic, and the pushing up of the Mario & Sonic release, was to compensate for the fact that the game might get delayed.

This sounds bad, but maybe they want to delay it until january just so they don't have to compete with Halo 3 for game of the year. IMO, Brawl will deserve it more, 'cause I heard Halo 3 was trash compared to Halo 2.

However, Brawl coming out in december really doesn't make it deserving of "game of the year". That's as goofy as Twilight Princess being named "Wii game of the year" in 2006. Oh, wait, IGN did that...

But Halo fanboys are friggin' rabid and maybe Sakurai is sure that Brawl will be better, and it will gain more attention if released at the start of a new year.

Of course Sonic was released today for that very reason. Why else would they show such a big update on an otherwise unremarkable day?

Sakurai's a tweeker. He'll probably release eight copies tomorrow and then wait three years to give the rest of us a game. You never know. A normal person would have saved Sonic for last. He's unpredictable.

He can't do anything about it, nd your angry with him? He's making the game better, and you are disappointed? Be happy with Sonic - I am delirious with glee. Don't hang yourself that he is being used to cushion the blow. Would you rather him give you an item update about the Bom-omb and also say that, 'oh yeah, delay on the game. lol.'

I wouldn't call it a bribe, more like just a distraction. But yes, of course that's why they announced Sonic today.

Brawl will deserve Game of the Year more than Halo 3 because someone somewhere said it was trash? I don't follow the logic. Besides, I've only heard that Halo 3 was better than Halo 2 and sometimes even better than Halo 1. Also, there will be an equal proportion of people who think Brawl is trash compared to Melee as there are people who consider Halo 3 trash compared to Halo 2. In addition, Brawl will have much more competition than just Halo 3 for Game of the Year if it's released this year.

Also, Brawl is trash.

I think Halo 3 will deserve Game of the Year more, 'cause I heard Brawl was trash compared to Melee.

well, thats exactly what the TC is trying to say. it looks like u took the bait, sonic is out, u are happy so u dont give a sh*t about the game being delayed. i beleived sonic wouldnt be in the game, but not because i dont like him, i do, i just tought he wouldnt make it. i was as surprised as everyone with todays update, and i liked it a lot, but then i found out the release date change, and c'mon, the fact that they didnt even mentioned it feels like if sonic was a distraction, i mean, is too much of a coincidence, dont u think?

the point is, i remember reggie saying the release date with a lot of confidence "not the next summer, not the next year, THIS year, dec 3rd" so, a 2 weeks delay is more understandable, but 2 months?? yeah they are makin the game better (at least i wanna think so) but u know, it was supposed to be the big N game of the year, and the christmas game and sh*t, so, u get the point

Obviously the reason for the delay is that they can't figure out what to put on the official boxart.

No but seriously, Sakurai knows **** well that the longer he waits, the more updates he's going to have to put on the DOJO. Eventually he'll run out and be forced to release the game.

Also, Sonic was released today because he was released at the Nintendo conference. No matter what Sakurai did, when the people at that conference left that conference for home, the world would know about Sonic. Thus, he willingly released Sonic, as opposed to the world finding out through word of mouth.

Wahah, that'd be HILARIOUS. I'd jump in my car and race down to the nearest GameStop cash in-hand, screaming like a madman.

On another note, I seriously hope it isn't released too late in 2008. I was planning on playing Brawl with my sister when she comes back for Winter Break, but now I guess we can't....

I think they knew they couldn't make the game in time, so they came up with a clever ploy to distract people. I, on the other hand, along with a lot of other conservative smashers were just looking for something ELSE to go wrong with the updates that day.

"Bribed" isn't the correct term. He isn't giving use a choice in the matter. Sonic was used to both soften the blow of one of the most wanted Wii games being pushed back and because this was a big Nintendo event where we got alot of Nintendo news.

And it worked;)

They didn't even have to show us that many moves for them to get the Sonic Boom they wanted (hell, Sonic only actually ran once in the entire vid. Mostly did SpinDash). Just confirming Sonic is enuff to pump us up.

I REALLY hope this comes out sometime in Dec. I just started learning Maya and Maya aint giving me the love I want (***t is not easy and it takes a LOT of my time) and my math class gotz me lost. Brawl was the driving force for me to glide in and out of the term seeing as Dec 3 is like 2 weeks before I have my sweet 3 week brake.

IDK what Im going to take next term but I don't think its going to be easy enuff for me to play brawl as much as I would like.

BUT, Im party happy that he is doing this. From what I know, on the Japanese site, he said that they needed more time to fix small glichs because the game is SOO nog with SOO many different worlds. The last thing we need is some "How to glide without falling" glich that people lable a "Advanced Tech".

It doesn't matter what we're shown now, as long as when it comes out it delivers.

And if it means that they have to delay it, that's fine with me. Better finished than lacking. Hell, if they had to delay it for another half year to add some cool features that will really enhance the game - I'm down.

The title is misleading. We aren't being bribed. We're being distracted! This was gong to happen anyway. Sakurai just wants this game to be fully polished instead of rushed like Melee was. I'm not really fazed by the possible delay. Of course I'm not happy about t, but I try not to worry. It means the game will be even better. Higher quality. Without bugs.

Plus, I'm completely ecstatic now that Sonic's in. But that makes me anticipate the game's release more--which is pretty much the opposite of the intended effect.

Whatever. I'm happy, we'll continue getting updates, and we can all look forward to both of the extremely well-designed third party character that have been confirmed, as well as all of the awesome Nintendo-owned ones. And the actually-worthwhile single-player mode. And Co-op. And Wi-Fi. And Wi-Fi co-op.

Wow. That is awesome.

A bribe to me would be 3 straight confirmed new characters (Ridley, Geno, Megaman, Bomberman, Isaac, King Dedede, Olimar and/or Lucario <-- See he has lots of choices ^_^) or some returning at least (C. Falcon, Vacuum Luigi, + Improved Sword Ganondorf). Other than that, its not a bribe I'm not taking.:ohwell:
