Well see topic.

Let's say that you have the hots for your mom, it's generally considered a Taboo. But if you are turned on by moms in general, the creation of the fantasy can be considered as a healthy fetish.

If this logic could be argued as applicable, then are there any differences between one's social taboo and personal fetish?

P.S. What's your fetish? Mine is blood.

Isn't it true that breeding within the family can do weird things with the gene pool? If that is so, then having an oedipal relation would create unhealthy offspring, which is seen as not good.

From what I think, it starts with animal basics. You have offspring, and if they're healthy and able to carry on, that's good. but if you ****** them, they aren't a prospect anymore, they're a burden that has difficulty to move on.

Put that with the evolution of civilizations and societies, it just turns into a weird thing because you never see it, and it feels wrong because there is something that tells us that within us.

The liking of other mothers is perfectly fine though, because it's no longer compromising anything. They're just mates who happen to be older than you, and provide no negative impact.

EDIT:

To close, Taboo is something that has a negative effect, something forbidden. A fetish is something that is just unorthodox.

I'm not sure what you're trying to argue or propose here. Taboos and fetishes are completely different, not entirely because the example you gave is not in the least bit contradictory [it is possible to be aroused by OTHER mothers, whilst you refrain from incestuous feelings towards your own], but because a taboo is not inherently sexual.

Taboos aren't always about sex. Fetishes always are.

A taboo is simply something considered extremely rude or distasteful.

Examples:
Asking a casual acquaintance his/her age or weight
Burping or farting at the dinner table
Talking on the phone in the middle of a presentation

Definition of fetish behind spoiler tags for sexual content
I think you're looking for the comparison between kinks and fetishes. A kink is something that normally is not associated with sex, yet enhances the sexual experience. When that kink becomes necessary for any sexual feeling to occur, then it becomes a fetish.

If you want a specific example, PM me.

Well, another fetish topic just got closed. So I'm assuming this isn't appropriate. Even though violence is oddly acceptable, sexuality isn't.

'm closing this for a specific reason. You coulda looked this up in some sort of book of words.... hrm.... can't remember the name, maybe I'll look t up in the dictionary.
