Are there any "good" smash clones? Warning: subjectivity meter off the charts

I was bored this morning so I went to the trash dump that is the GameFAQs Smash board. I don't know why...

But someone posted a topic that basically said "Nintendo should license their Smash engine and concept to other companies so they could make their own versions", and that got me to thinking since anyone really can already make their own Smash clone, what good ones have you played?

Personally I have no interest in Playstation All-Stars, but I would like to try the Cartoon Network one since it's got the same "damage percentage, knock em off the stage" thing going on. I heard it was rubbish though. The TMNT one looks intriguing especially with Brawl's engine, but I really don't like the movie design and the sad roster. And Digimon World 2 is ridiculously expensive and apparently not any good.

PS: With Nickelodeon now owning the rights to the Turtles as well as Avatar/Korra, why do we not have a Nicktoons smash clone?

... to name 2 "smash-type" games that you haven't already mentioned.

I think the usage of an "existing" engine to make a new game is a bad idea. And as you yourself have pointed out, there is now enough Titles to warrant a sub-category of fighting game, though I don't know what name you'd give them. In this sense, though, you'd want the game to have a unique engine. FGE's especially undergo so many tweaks specific to the actual fighting game they're supporting, that it's easier to just start from scratch.

Lastly, this is hardly the place for this type of discussion, so if you please, bring this up in the Light House.

Apparently they're called "platform fighters". And oops :p i guess we'll just have to have an admin move it.

There's a Japan-only DS called Jump Ultimate Stars which is basically Smash Bros but with manga characters instead. It's not competitive at all but it is the only game in the world where you can have a four-way battle between Yusuke, Goku, Yugi and Ichigo. It is a bit on the dated side since it came out in 2006 but it's still worth playing if you can get your hands on a copy.

Oh and I also heard Super Smash Flash 2 is good. It even has a competitive scene and a tier list.

First one is butt though.

Oh god, that game. I had the most epic lag-fest three-way in my entire life. Never got so close to winning in an online match too.
