Are nunchuks Project M compatible?

We were going to load the project M mod and practice before going to a tournament. Thing is, all we have used for the last six years is our wii remotes and nunchuks.

Do they work with Project M, or will we have to buy/practice with gamecube controllers?

Yes. Wii remotes + nunchuks work in PM.

EDIT: (Don't listen to the guy below me. Use whatever controller you like most)

Yeah but use a GCC. /thread
I feel more comfortable with the wii remote because you can always have a finger hovering over A and a finger hovering over B. No millisecond delay switching from one to the other. Hope they work for the Wii U version too.

They do work technically

I'm guessing your coming from brawl which I found that mote+chuks was a completely acceptable form of control in that game I completely understand where your coming from

The problem is It's really not in this game, the game play style is different. It's going to be insanely difficult for you do the kind of button execution you have to do in P:M with that.

I'm just saying do yourself a favor just pick of a GC controller, especially if your going to tournaments your just going to put yourself at an extreme disadvantage.

I believe I just played with a couple of PM players for fun yesterday after only playing PM for a few days. All of them had GC controller and I used the nunchuk. Won quite a few times.

Shame I don't have a c-stick but I make do. Not paying $40 for an old controller.

I am forced to use the Wii-chuck myself. It took some adjusting, but at the same time, not having the C stick is something that changes your playstyle. You REALLY have to get inside of people's heads because of it. I managed to play with a GCN when I play on my friend's wii, and I have to admit, I do play a bit better. You just can't play as technical is you'd like to. You can wavedash and short hop somewhat, but IMO it's not as easy.

Absolutely, although everyone has already answered that, ha. I've never really seen anyone use a nunchuck and be really good with it until today. I hosted an 8 man Smash Bros Project M tourney at my house today and the guy who won, used the nunchuck. He did very well with it.

Trust me regardless what others say you don't NEED to invest in a GC controller. You can pretty much do everything the gamecube controller can do. You even have ways of using the C-stick if that is something that want/need. By default the Wii Remote's motion sensing acts as the Wii Remotes C-Stick, but in my experience I never could do the smashes that I wanted to do uses that option, however you could use your D-Pad on the wii mote for your smash attacks if you want quick Smashes. For example I have up on my D-pad set to up-smash rather than jump, you can do this with the other buttons as well, changing the left/right, and down buttons to their respective smashes, or whatever else you decide to have those buttons used for.

Protip: Shake Smash is the same as having a c-stick. I imagine you can SDI with it too. But it's motion control so...

You also have a classic controller pro as an option on the WII U as well... but if you're comfortable with wiimote+nunchuks and can make it work then don't let anybody talk you away from it.

Thank you. I'm to see there are some people that don't just right off the Wii-Remote + Nunchuck as being inferior and not viable.

Well, it's essentially the same method used for manual smash attacks, which is by "smashing" the stick in any direction and hitting "A". The only difference is I'm also pressing the shield button during the "smashing" motion for a glide toss. I can still toss in one direction and glide in the opposite direction by immediately tapping back and forth.
