Someone's dipped a bit too heavily into Jusenkyo springs. Gender by itself doesn't do anything, but in very specific scenarios it can mean something. The nidorans, for example, have significantly different traits. Tauros and Miltank are also the same like the Nidorans. Of course, the attraction moves will also affect those of differing genders (which I think is just nuts, but this isn't the forum for that).

Although interesting to note is (in most cases) Males/Females ratio is 50/50 or 87.5/12.5. Meaning that If you want someone with Attract a Female is your best bet as most opponents will be male.

That is a good point. Probably the only true benefit of one gender over another.

Actually, what this stemmed from was the fact that back in the G/S/C era, any Pokemon that wasn't an entirely female species couldn't have max attack IV's without being male. It was this that led to the whole 'Male Pokemon are stronger' saying, since it was impossible to get a superiorly strong female in that era. However this has LONG since changed and is no longer relevant.

No differences

If any, there are only different sprites and evolutions.
