I bought this game the other day. I really wanna get into the *new* 2D fighting scene (I haven't played one since MvC2, I tried GG but seriously I suck at it) but I don't comprehend the whole canceling aspect really.

With no one really in my area to play with or get tips from it's hard to progress. The lingo is also difficult to understand imo.

7 8 9
4 5 6
1 2 3

Are the directions you can move in. When you refer to a down attack you could say "2B" or something.

Anyways, I'm still learning this all myself.

Perhaps if anyone could give me some tips? Most of my combos don't go past 5A > 2B > 5C or something that simple.,

I am noticing that "iad"ing (instant air dash) is very important for combo loops and starting combos and what-not, but I have a hard time executing it with characters other than Heart.

Does anyone else play this though? Maybe someone can help me. :|

EDIT: Okay, so I picked up Heart with the Dieu Mort Arcana. I made up some random combo that probably doesn't work against a human but... here it is.

5A, 5B, 6B, 623C, HC, ABC, 236D, fall into A, jC ABC, 623C, 623AB

That's basically the extent of my knowledge playing this game right now.

I'm an Arcana Heart player. I can help you out with learning the game, but if you're transitioning from Smash to Arcana it won't be easy. You sort of have to throw out all Smash knowledge, because this game is a totally different beast.

I suggest starting with SRK, not SWF. SWF is too Smash focused, and as the above poster said, you can't let a vast majority of Smash knowledge interfere with AH. (I play AH only a tad...)

Well, SWF is a dedicated Smash board. There are extra non-smash boards, but were clearly focused on Smash knowledge.

SRK is quite good actually. A much better place to go if you want 2D fighter knowlege.

BTW, is Arcana Heart good? I love Street Fighter and Guilty Gear a lot and am fairly knowledgable of most 2D fighers. What does AH play most closely to?

Play's like bleach ds.

For this game you're gonna need to play some doujin fighters to understand the physics of it (insane OTG properties etc.) like Melty Blood or Big Bang Beat.

It's good but I just haven't had enough time to really get into the specifics however. GG and Street Fighter though I can help you alot with especially Guilty Gear so PM me if you have any questions.

Hey, SSMugen, I see yr from CT? You wouldn't happen to be going to the Brawl tournament in Watertown the 24th, would you? 'Cause I can bring my PS2 and copy of AH and we can play on an open TV.

I've gotten decently better at understanding this game since this topic was created, but I find myself on occassion losing to opponents who, unfortunately, just... mash the buttons. :|

I suppose I should give the SRK boards a gander for help on specifics, thanks for that tip! I just thought all the lingo would be overwhelmingly confusing for me to jump into, heh. :X

I'll send you a PM if I run into some trouble. I think I'm getting the hang of it, but I don't exactly know how to approach with some characters and I get left open after a lot of my attacks that would lead into combos. :{
