AR Ruining Online Play

Ok, this is one thing that would make online no fun at all. I would get pretty mad if someone was putting in some crazy codes that make it next to impossible to win. I was wondering if it is possible to make online secure so that AR is limited to off-line use only. I know that a lot of people are wondering the same thing and I would appreciate it if someone could tell me what the news is about AR for Brawl and if it is capable of altering online play.

I know that ARs that come with codes always have those codes set to offline only (as far as I know). You'd probably have to make your own codes because most people wouldn't want to ruin online.

Fighting games are the hardest to really cheat on. It's pretty obvious if anyone has some sort of handicap on because both of you have the same point of view unlike first person shooters where one could be cheating and the other player would not know. It would be pretty blatant to cheat in smash.

What is AR? Cheating? Handicaps? Well if thats right then Im geussing before a match their would some kind of system to let you "agree" with the host's "rule set" and you wouldn't be able to start the match until both player hit the "agree button"

AR is action replay, in melee you can use it to play as giga bowser, master hand, crazy hand, it also lets you switch a certain characters moves to another character, those are just a few examples of the things it can do. Other things start you at 999%, make you small, etc.

AR's can't be used for any online DS game, I doubt it'll work for Wii games either. Besides, how log has XBox live been out? How many games there are affected by AR's while online?

AR can be used for mkds online(dont know if its possible with any other games)
there are people who race in 150cc mode(the normal wifi mode is 100cc, so its alot faster)
or they can choose ofline course and battle course(then your forced to disconnect)

if they race 150cc or choos battle stages its pretty annoying
but you wont find people like this alot so it doesnt affect mkds wifi much(but when it happends i turn my ds off, i quess its a little more trouble with the wii then)

but i wouldnt be scared for ar users with brawl though.

OK, so forgive me if I missed some major interview, but when was online gameplay for Brawl ever confirmed? I think it would be awesome if we get it, but I don't want to get my hopes up if all this talk of online play around here is hypothetical.

Though I don't remember exactly where, Brawl working online is confirmed by Sakurai, and isn't hypothetical. Feel free to join the club, and get your hopes up :)

I'll poke around for confirmation that Brawl is online, in case you want to see it straight from the man himself, and edit this post if/when I find it.

EDIT: Wow, that didn't take too long. <3's the internet.

IGN said:
Better yet, this new Revolution Smash Bros. will take advantage of the console's Wi-Fi capabilities for online play out of the box
That's the E3 '05 article at IGN, so it's been confirmed at least since then. That was before we knew what "Smash Bros Revolution" would acualy be called.

IGN said:
Even better, the game will be fully online playable in addition to featuring a robust multiplayer mode. "My plan is to include Wi-Fi connection compatibility and online functionality. One of the primary reasons Super Smash Bros. Brawl was created was that Nintendo, when taking Wii online, wanted to have Smash Bros. to do that," added Sakurai
This one is from the E3 '06 article, also at IGN. At this point, we know what the game will be called. This is also the article announcing it's delay from a release title to a 2007 release. That one quotes Sakurai directly saying that Brawl will be online, so there you have it ;)

Really? wow I guess I just haven't been paying attention then. I had thought that the last interview I had read had said Sakurai had said maybe, but not likely. This is good news then! thanks!

Can't they also use "Press L for Power Up items" or "Always have Item:" codes for MKDS wifi also? And you can have infinite health inside MPH wifi and leviate.

Yeah that would really suck if someone adjusted their offence or defence ratio like you can in the debug menu of melee, ohhhh that would suck. (hmm he seems a little stronger) gayyy cheating is bad. I still have my doubts about it being online at all.

brawl online play will have no ranking system, thus no point for people using AR online.

Also, when it's out, this forum can be used to organise matches, and im sure a sticky of AR noobs could be arranged.

You don't have to worry Dylan, those Perfect Control videos are done by inputting controls frame by frame. I doubt it'd even be possible to use Debug Mode with AR online anyway, but still the AR user would somehow have to slow the game down to frame by frame mode without the opponent noticing at all.

Like that's gonna happen lol.

I've seen a LOT of online hacking in Metroid Prime Hunters. Namely firing Omega Canon shots on any stage. >_>

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe any AR codes apply to internet play. I'm sure you could create your own, but you might as well just mod.

I don't knowe if its still there but on the MPH rank display from nintendo the top player has thousands of kills, yet hasn;t played a single game...hmmmm....

That is why I believe having online crews/clans will really save the day.

I think as a general rule, if there is online play, there will be hackers. You just have to accept it.

The good thing, though, is that it will be harder to hack in Brawl because everyone sees the same screen and whatnot, so it probably wont be as bad as it is in some FPSs.

if there is no ranking system, then that will definitely discourage cheaters/modders. however, there are definitely people on xbox live who cheat in unranked playlists

People will cheat to win because it helps their fragile egos.

You'd think they'd say, "Wow, I suck so badly that I can't even win this game without cheating." but in the end, all they care about is winning, and they'll do whatever they can to accomplish that.
