Approaching a decent Marth: I need some help.

When me and my brother play, and he's Marth and I'm the sexiest character in Super Smash Bros., I often have trouble starting combos because I can't seem to hit him. Marth's sword is almost unfair because it gives him so much range and priority (johns). I can't even get one hit in on some lives. (Yes, it's very sad isn't it.)
I've figured out my problem though: I can't seem to approach him without getting punished horridly. It's just hurts to watch sometimes. When I actually get to him and start a combo, he's pretty much dead. (68ish% UThrow to a knee & 85ish% DThrow to a knee, thanks g-reg!) Basically, I need some tips on approaching a decent Marth. Thanks!

Play offensively and patient at the same time.
Don't mindlessely run in with n-airs and d-airs, The hardest part for me from switching from Fox to Falcon is not being able to control as easily.

Depends on what he's punishing you with. You can dashdance a little to throw him off and use stuff like the Raptor Boost occasionally to fake him out (the little pause and the noise at the beginning might make him whiff something and get hit, setting him up nicely). You can also try full jumping over him with a stomp or just running through him entirely and attacking him from behind. It only works occasionally though, because once they catch on, they'll just straight up hit you. Alternately, you can try spacing nairs. They work wellish against Marth.

I understand now: I'm doing everything right in terms of "approach", I just need to be less conspicuous about it.

Thanks. Anything else would be wonderful, y'all.

I'm a G&W player and the only thing I can say about not getting ***** by Marth is to space and wavedash in after his attack. Captain Falcon has quite a few more advantages than G&W as far as speed and reach is concerned, but I would say the best way to beat Marth is block and counter.

His attack speed is high and he can combo like crazy, but he does have a rythm to his attacks. Get in after he attacks, slam some combo dmg and then stay on him. Marth is played aggressivly by always moving forward. If you can time one of his attacks, then get in and punish him, you can force him to defend. Once he starts doing that, he becomes much easier to put down.

Thanks for all the help y'all. I really appreciate it.
Falcon isn't my main, so I normally need a good amount of help and luck with mind-games when I play him.

Dash dancing generally helps, but don't blatantly dashdance to close to him, you you're asking to get grabbed/naired/fsmashed. Just play close attention. Dthrow chaingrab to raptor boost/knee/uthrowknee is infinitely excellent as well.

Just remember that a wavedash is your emergency brake.

Starting combos with falcon with a safe approach is harder then pulling off his combos... And his combos sure aren't easy to pull off <.< That's why I think hes the hardest character to play with (and I main fox lol).
Utilize falcons insane speed. Keep distance and bait attacks until he misses an attack and punish him in his lag with a shffl'd nair (the fastest option) or a JC grab if you have time. You have to be very quick! if your brother is a good player he wont be using many laggy attacks except to finish off combos.
I dont really know to launch a combo from a nair at low percentages, just hitting with both the hits is hard due to how fast falcon moves. my tip is to watch pro marth vs cf videos, pay VERY close attention to how falcon approaches when playing defensevily and cautiously and how he starts off combos once he gets a hit in.

You can follow a double hit nair with a flying stomp, knee or Raptor Boost. Otherwise, you can fast fall to cancel the second hit of the nair and grab.

A good way to hit with both hits of the nair is, as soon as the first kick hits, automatically di backwards to stop your momentum, which should send them up for either another Nair or a Uair (Usually depending on the character).

They can fsmash or utilt you out of that though... stomp approaches against Marth almost never work. He has too much range.

Yeah but they could just fair your approaches away. Fairs are pretty hard to punish.

Honestly though, I don't play Falcon against Marth. It just isn't worth it when I can play Sheik instead =P
