Ok, so after finding a great match and winning a few games with Lucy on FG, I decided to switch characters and lost a few games in an effort to improve my Shulk. Needless to say, it dropped my win ratio a few percent. Now I'm stuck in a valley of matchmaking that houses campers aplenty. Not even good campers, mind you. They would just stand in the corner and spam projectiles until I approached, and they would subsequently roll away. And I lost consistently because of it. My first thought was "Why I am I losing to these people?!" I had just taken multiple games off a good player, but I can't beat someone who's using just three attacks? Lag was definitely an issue, but I could tell it wasn't its fault completely. As for my tactics, I tried approaching with an aerial. Didn't work. Dashing was out too, so I tried approaching with Lucy's ftilt. They rolled away. I tried approaching without attacking, but they would just roll to the other side of the stage. Even when I knew they were going to roll to one side, I couldn't exploit the vulnerability period between rolls consistently.

Basically, what are some good strategies for approaching a camper who rolls constantly? Any help is appreciated.

If you can, try to improve your connection. Projectile spam is difficult to overcome when you are lagging. You can check if your opponent will lag in your match by changing your costume in the character select screen. If it stutters then you should try to find a new opponent.

In my opinion, the best way to approach a projectile spammer is to run and powershield the projectiles. The faster and more accurately you do this the better. You can also try approaching via air, but don't land in front of your opponent's shield else you will be shield grabbed.

As for punishing rolls coming toward you, most sword characters' Down Smashes are pretty good. Shulk's will definitely work. If they roll away, try to get them with a Dash Attack or similar.

If u dont have projectiles then u can powersheild, but alot of ppl forget that just punching can destroy projectiles. Punch, move forward, punch, move forward, repeat until you're close enough to attack. Tilts work great. Especially since your character has a sword. You can hit thru the projectile and connect with the fighter

"Corner" them on whatever side they roll to, and when they get scared and roll back towards the center/other side just dsmash. After they miss the tech they'll probably keep rolling towards the center/other side since all fg players like this are predictable. Follow and punish.

And please...dont be one of those ppl who actually cares about their W/L ratio on for glory......please

It's OK to care when it's the reason you get stuck with people who are boring to play against.

And don't forget your mixups. If you plan an approach by jumping in front of someone (Especially if you're in Jump) use your fastfall strategically to grab them before they grab you. And n-air erry day to block low-priority projectiles like Link's arrows.
