Yep. Sakurai wrote an article in Famitsu, where he thanked his staff and us fans, said that the development of Smash 4 is done, and that he's taking a well deserved vacation. This most likely means that this was the final balance patch.

What are your thoughts on this? Seems a bit risky, to me, concidering Bayonetta and Corrin just got released. If we eventually learn that they definitely need a huge nerf or buff (same with other characters), will nothing happen then?

Sakurai says alot of things, its doubtful that the game won't continue to receive balance patches. The case could be that someone else will be handling the balancing for awhile.

Being the final balance patch does not bother me.

What would bother me is if absolutely nothing else is gonna be done such as fixing the god awful bugs Corrin has with his side b and grab, those are things you just dont ignore.

I'm glad that Sakurai is taking a vacation. However, it's risky to make this the final patch.
What if we discover something akin to Diddy's Hoo-hah with Corrin and Bayonetta (and perhaps Cloud)? Or what if a character has a glitch that enhances them or hurts them? Without anyone to patch things out, we'll be stuck with it and have to "deal with it."
Honestly, I hope someone else is at least handling the patches. Certain characters may need tweaking in the future.

I doubt this is the final balance patch, especially with the Corrin infinite grab glitch.

I can't find the original video, but Wario traded with Corrin's Side B and he was launched and "pinned" at the same time but was flying through the air in his idle animation and wasn't able to move and died because of it. There was another video of this happening in a free for all and the person who got hit couldn't move at all until he hit the ground.

And then there's the obvious grab glitch on Zero Suit Samus. Would be kind of weird if they didn't come back to fix those two problems at least.

Yup, that's just about the best way to put it. This can be the last balance patch..although, I find it a little odd that they aren't giving Corrin and Bayonetta some time to tweak them, but they should at least iron out some bugs just because they shouldn't be there at all.

This. Just because they won't be developing more characters, and Sakurai is going on holiday, doesn't mean there can't be another balance patch. Pretty sure part of the reason Namco Bandai was bought in to help was to help with the huge character balancing.

I'm pretty sure they only mean that there will be no more content updates. I would assume there would at least be one more balance patch in the future to address things and tidy up game balance with Corrin and Bayonetta. I'd also imagine they'd have people on standby just in case something game breaking was discovered that hadn't before. Sakurai isn't the entire dev team, after all.

A similar situation to this is Final Fantasy XI - they've ceased development on new content, but they will be periodically making adjustments. Of course, that's an MMO and this is a fighting game, so this could be a moot point.
