I just finished a rather frustrating play session of wii u online with using my gamecube controller. It felt like I was having internet connection issues, or something was wrong that was giving my opponent some sort of advantage over me. So I guess I'm asking, does anyone know for a fact if the gamecube adapter can work with only one of it's 2 usb inputs plugged into the wii u, but significantly slower than normal?

If I understood correctly, one of them is just for the rumble feature. Which iirc you can also switch off in the options menu if you don't like it. I haven't personally tried it yet but it should work with only one USB inserted into your Wii U, you just wouldn't have the rumble feature.

The black wire is the only one that is required; the gray one simply supplies the rumble feature. Prior to recent updates, this was the only way to disable rumble in menus. This annoyed many of us enough in the early days of the game to just disable the rumble feature altogether. Out of habit, I still to this day only plug in the black wire.
