Because that's when they wanted to schedule it. I would have to guess that it's delayed a little bit to get the new team up to date on running one of the largest Melee tournament series in the world, but I have no proof to support this theory. For all I know, they could have just wanted to go back to the series' roots and schedule it mid-year.

And it's so close to EVO too. Winter might be better than Summer for the series, but now Genesis might become an annual series
