Hey there,
I inherited a copy of Super Smash Bros Melee from a friend of mine when he moved.
Problem is, this disc is just waiting to crack and die.
I'm wanting to know what you guys would do with this besides buy another copy of the game. Any disc repairs that can fix inner circle/hole cracks?
Here's what the disc looks like:

You can buy a repolishing kit on Amazon or sand it down to resurface it if the scratches didn't get to the data layer. If there is a shop that will resurface it try that place.

What about the cracks though? I don't really care too much about the scratches because that's easy to get rid of, it's more so those cracks on the inner-ring of the disc. I looked online but didn't see too much on it

EDIT: After Googling the situation, it looks like all you can do is use a thin layer of crazy glue on the cracks and hope for the best. I figured there would be some kind of service out there that would replace the inner-ring of the disc with a generic plastic inner-ring, but I guess that was just some wishful thinking

The inner ring doesn't actually have any data on it, so people usually just leave it in whatever state it's in. Is there a reason you're concerned with the inner ring cracks?

EDIT: Also, what did your friend do to that poor Melee disc?

There should be a few stores that offer disc repairs, that may vary depending on where you live though. I remember Blockbuster used to repair discs, and pretty sure Microplay does too.

Yes many places here in Peterborough do disc repair, however they wouldn't be able to do anything about the crack in the middle of a disc :(

You can't make a crack disappear. You can stop a crack by drilling a small hole at the end of the crack, stopping its growth, but obviously you can't drill through the game data lol.

You could do some research on epoxy's that are good, I've worked repairing boats quite a bit and West System epoxy is insanely good, but expensive. Doubt you'd be able to get that in a small quantity but maybe. Don't go with a cheap instant epoxy you get from a hardware store. Do research. Then apply it to the outside (don't try to get it in the crack, it should deep in some anyway) so it'll hold the 2 sides stationary.

Does the disc work?? And is that huge line across the meat of the disc a scratch (looks bad)? From what I can see the only crack is in the center. If that's the case, the only chance of the crack growing is when you pull the disc out/put it back in. Spinning within the game cube shouldn't make that crack grow.

Thank you for your response, I've followed you on Smashboards for a while, as you always have some opinion or information to share :)
Also yeah, I don't have access to a drill that small to do that with
The game disc still boots and seems to run fine somehow, I believe the scratch is able to be fixed
When it comes to epoxy's I'll have to do my research, and not default to getting something immediately from Home Hardware or whatever. Would crazy glue work as well as an epoxy, or would it still not work?

Lol yeah I can be opinionated sometimes. Krazy glue imo is a tad better than most generic super glues, with a try if you can't find anything else.
