Anyway to play SSB 64 online yet?

Hi.

I own the game, have for many years, and so have all my friends.

All my SSB friends have moved away. We'd like to play each other online somehow. Has this been developed?

Thanks

Yeah it's been around for god knows how long. 5 years? I really don't know, search the forum for the official projekt64k thread and you'll find everything you need to know.

You don't own at this game. The best thing about this game is that everyone thinks they own, like me a few years ago. I thought I owned but looking back I really didn't.

Lemme guess... you can beat 3 level 9 computers and doesn't afraid of anything.

Online smash has been out for a really really long time. P2P smash is where it's at.

Thanks for the info, guys. I downloaded MUPEN and a hi-res pack(!), but I'm still having problems with character flickering and NetPlay. :( Can someone .zip their working MUPEN folder and host it on rapidshare, PM me a link? I really don't want to spend the hours it'll take to figure all these settings out (comp is < 1 year old).

THANKS a billion, from one smashy fan to another. :)

MarioReincarnate is kidding.

There is no way in bloody hell that'll happen without him physically opening up the N64. The only thing that may SORT of work is something on the controllers end, with a cartraidge adapter to set up the game. But really, it's bull****.

I have to go to bed, can't zip up my Mupen yet [and Malva's Mupen is...somewhere].

i'm not kidding... but first i'm going to finish my wireless n64 controller, then make a portable (handheld) n64, then tackle a network adapter... and you're right it would be a controller adapter to capture the controller input and a cartridge adapter to sync up game play... no easy task... that's just the first pass at an idea though... one can dream though, right?

Yo, you probably already know about this, but I figured I'd link to it just in case and/or for others to see. The online capability/service that N64 got in Japan with the Disk Drive peripheral.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_64DD#RANDnet

(why was it always a disk drive with those old consoles? Sega CD, too. Even the Famicom[NES] had a disk drive add-on that never saw the light of day in North America...)

The hi-res pack might be the cause of the flickering. And possibly the netplay issues. Try Project64k instead of Mupen - it has less CPU usage and runs faster. Mupen is only good for P2P, playing *** SSB and Goldeneye, and possibly recording, imo.

But thats what I'm trying to do, play SSB P2P. Don't care too much about the story mode or anything (at least, once I unlock the characters). I've beat it countless times over.

Also, the hi-res pack isn't the cause of the flickering, it was happening before I copied the files over. Good suggestion though.

Who/what is Malva and where is her Mupen? :p

Project 64k can play on servers instead of P2P, the most popular one is EGX which usually has about a dozen or more people on during the day and even a handful of people late at night.

Malva, better known as Isai, is the best Smash 64 player ever. He is god at 64.

Hmm... so should I be using Project64 or Mupen for playing my buddies online? I guess I'd like to play with random strangers, too, but I really just want to make sure I can play with my friends. Which is better (least lag)?

Sweet, maybe he'll kick my *** once I have this working. :p

Can anyone zip their Mupen or Project64 folder for me PLEASE? Just use filedropper and post the link back here. No registration, just upload and post the link back to the boards:
http://www.filedropper.com/

The reason I ask is because there's a ton of hacks for these programs, setting special parameters and downloading plugins and all, and I just don't have time to screw around with it (I work a 50+ hour week job plus side jobs). Plus I'm worried my friends won't play if it's too complicated to set up. :(

Please, I'd be very very grateful! :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

You don't need to (and shouldn't bother) beating it again, since you can use gameshark within the emulator and playing online requires that you do this anyway if you want access to all the chars when playing friends.

Anyway, Mupen can only P2P which is only 2 people max I believe, so if you want to do some FFAs with friends you'll need to use project64k for that. Mupen is very good for p2p though, arguably better.

This Mupen being spoken of used to be linked on Malva's online videos in the description, but he deleted them all :urg:
Now I forget the link. It was on Megaupload.

But wait... YOU PLAY SSB64 AND DON'T KNOW WHO MALVA/ISAI IS?!?!?

You can play Mupen with 4 players online. If you can't it's because the version of P2P being used is the one without kaillera attached to it.

I uploaded a version of Mupen64k, but we're not allowed to link to emulators [looking at Dair's thread and the Mod response]. So I'll PM it.

It's Malva's P2P, but after AVG cleaned it up. It still works, just missing Supraclient.

Awesome! Thanks Superstar! I'll google Supracilent and see what's up (pretty sure I already have it).

I'm at my work computer now (lunch break), so I'll have to check this out when I get home. THANKS A MILLION! :)

You don't need supraclient. It's just missing cause it gives a virus alert. You can get by with the P2P client it comes with.

When you use it, remember to do Options->Settings, and set Videoplugin to Jabo's Direct3D8. Probably the reason for the flickering was that it was set to the Rice Plugin, or something. You need Jabo Direct3D8.
