SKIP TO SECOND PARAGRAPH IF YOU DONT WANT TO READ MY SMASH STORY

Hey guys, so im new to the smash community and just one week ago went to my first melee tournament which i got bodied down to last in but dont worry i dont want to quit or anything , well actually i just got into melee and competitive smash in general about a week before the tournament. The story is that i was on and off of smash 4 to project M ,oh yea I also forgot to mention i dont actually own melee i practice on project M, but anyway I was going on and off just causally play pm with my brother and then trying to get good against my friends in smash 4.It wasnt until my freind who isnt very good at smash proposed to me a tournament at a card shop near us.I couldnt just let this offer fly by as I loved watching m2k, mango, ppmd, and all of the other gods battle it out on youtube. So basically a week of bodying my friends later and we arrive at the tournament. The funny thing was that I actually thought that I was going to win. That all changed when the first freindly i played with someone other than my brother I only got about 50 damage off.So thats when i realized maybe I wasnt as good as I thought.

Now it is the week after the tournament and though I took a small break off of smash I started practice again and harder than ever.I now can waveland and dash pretty good and I am teaching myself to L cancel all of my fairs (I main Marth btw). But this is all against a cpu as my brother has kind of fallen out from smash.I would love for someone better than me or even worse to just practice with so I can learn and really hone my skills,I also really love to meet other people in the smash community because I absolutley love the smash community. Thanks to whoever if anyone responds , Cyb3r

What area are you from? It sounds like you're just starting out. I'd suggest you join the Georgia Melee Facebook page.

The pinned post will keep you updated on all the tournaments in the state, as well as some of the big tournaments in the south east. If you're serious about wanting to get good at Melee, you're going to need to be prepared to travel; netplay never appealed to me, personally. If you can't drive yourself, try carpooling with friends that are also interested in playing smash (don't forget to chip in for gas or set up a rotation!). The most important tourney to attend to get good in Georgia is usually the Flashback series (Jim's tournament), but at your level, you should really focus on meeting players in your area and finding a group to practice with.

I'm from middle Georgia, personally, although I drive to Atlanta to play as much as I can. If you're around the Milledgeville/Macon area, I'd be down to train with you whenever.

Best of luck.

Cool man, looks like you're a little less than two hours away from me. Too far for regular sessions, but we could meet up and play some time. Feel free to shoot me a pm. You're much closer to Athens (about 30 mins) so you could probably get in on the UGA smash scene and practice with those guys. They're nice, and there are some pretty solid players there.

I'm in Athens which is about thirty minutes from Winder.

You could join Athens Smash Bros. on Facebook.

Also, I would definitely be up to playing you if you are willing to travel. I'll be here all summer. Just post in Athens Smash Bros. saying you talked to CAUP on smash boards or something and people should tag me. Or just PM me :p That is way simpler. Let me do that.

Anyways.

CAUP, have we ever played before? :0 I remember travelling to UGA once with all the GCSU boys and having a giant crew battle. I was the Young Link main. I think you guys have Bravo over there, right?

Yeah we played. I took three stocks from you on Yoshi's. And Tristan is a Georgia Tech player I do believe. I was impressed by your young link at the time. Definitely annoying, which is of course good for young link : )
