So I'm about to join the Air Force and will be going to basic training quite soon....
I do care for the community as well as avidly play Smash.
I know it sounds pretty immature that I'm joining the military and worry about video games but whatever. xD

So my questions are...

-Are we able to have game consoles in barracks / dormitories?

-How much free time is there within tech school?

-Will there provided laptop computers? Do we bring our own?
(I'd like to at least watch tournaments and communicate to the community here)

-How much free time is there during an average workday? Are there weekends off?

-Anything I should know about joining?

Expecting a few promising replies!

Hey what's sup Pale tuna. i'll answer them in order.
(Disclaimer: I Was in the U.S Army so not all my answers may apply to the air force)

1. Yes. You should be able to have a T.V and a your casual stuff. i don't know what the Air force barracks will look like once you get out of basic training and....The AIT equivalent (Advanced initial training) of the air force.

2. This one i can't answer. You'll realize as you go into your military carrer. Not every duty station follow the same standards. Some duty stations may give you more free times then others.

3.I would recommend you bringing your own laptop. 9 times out of 10 the government will only provide computers for the offices you work in. Depending on the MOS you're going into.

4A.As i said in question 2. This one also can't be answered. it depends on what your Sgt or Non commissioned officer has planned for you to do that day.

4B. This is a yes and no answer with basic training. You may have weekends off but you may not be able to go out either. Things has changed since i was in basic training back in 07 so i can't say for sure if it's the same or not. When you're out of Basic training and in a regular unit yes you will have weekends off unless if you're mos requires you to be in (Ex: Being a Cook, ETC). You will also get 4 day weekends (Thurs/Friday/Saturday/Sunday or S/S/M/T). It depends on the specific holiday however. (EX: Thanksgiving & Christmas)

5. I don't know for sure but i believe the air force has a wish list duty station form as well. If so it will give you three or possibly 4 options to choose from where you want to go for your first duty station. My wishlist was near my home, South Korea and Japan. and I got South Korea.

I do not know how the airforce basic training is compared to the army but all i can say is make sure you are mentally ready. If you think playing at EVO grand finals look stressful on the mind you haven't seen nothing yet.

However i do wish you luck in your training and thank you for serving our country.

Thanks for the comments guys. :p

I definitely feel better prepared. Might be shipping out this Tuesday which means no apex for me. Or anything smash related for 10 weeks...

Congrats on joining the Air Force!

I actually joined the Air Force not too long ago myself, so I can tell you about BMT and Tech School, since it is fresh in my mind.

First two weeks of BMT are gonna suck. They are going to put you under stress in order to break you down. No matter what you do in BMT, you will lose. You thought you rolled the perfect shirt? Nope, try again. You thought you made your bed right? Wrong.

The good news is that BMT is not how the Air Force is like at all, and it is easy. It might not seem easy at first, but you'll see how easy it is once you get through it.

As for tech school, yes, you are allowed to have game consoles in the dorms, and the dorms are nice. Are they the greatest? Not really, but they are pretty nice. Just make sure that studying is your biggest priority. As for free time. I had weekends off. And about 5 hours of free time. (I went to bed pretty early.) However, your tech school might be different from mine, depending on what job you get in the Air Force, because different bases, different rules.

Once again, tech school will have their crappy portions. But once you get past tech school, you will have a much better time in the operational AF. Just stay out of trouble and you should be fine.

If you ever need to ask me any more questions, feel free to PM me.

Not too sure how to PM unless you mean post on your profile's wall. But I'll just put my question here.

After basic training, how long do I have till tech school? Am I able to go back home for awhile? I would assume so since I'd have to get my personal belongings such as my laptop, and other necessities.

You go from basic straight to tech school. If you want your stuff in tech school, you'll want to ask your family to ship it out to you. After tech school is when you can take leave and go home. And they have a rule about no electronics in basic, so don't have your parents bring them to you when you see them during graduation. You can bring your phone and charger though.

Also, remember that you are still in basic until you reach your tech school, so don't do anything stupid when you are so close to being done. I have heard stories in where people got recycled back to week 4 or earlier because they did something stupid before they left.

As for a PM, I'll send you one that you can respond to.
