Anyone else not like the always face front feature?

Title says it.
I just don't seem to like this. I don't know if its cause I am just not used to it or something, but when ever I watch a match for this game, characters that this effects look really odd to me. Plus i always felt that having them put there back to the screen depending on what way they were facing felt more organic.

I like it but it can look weird sometimes since certain characters don't have it.

Edit: My bad. In this video, you can see Little Mac, Villager, and Link (and probably more) facing away at times, and Megaman always facing front.

It wasn't a necessary change but I don't mind it. I didn't even notice until someone pointed it out a while back.

Then again, I also didn't notice that characters used to have their backs to you in past games, so I'm as observant as a stapler.

Mario always faces the camera now too.
I guess this means an end to awkward backwards taunts, at least for some characters.

Not all the characters have this feature. For instance, in the Developer Direct, you will notice that Link, Pit, and Samus do not have it.

Anyhow, it really bothered me at first, but I got over it. In some ways, it makes perfect sense with characters like Mario, Kirby, Mega Man, and Sonic, since their sprites were mirrored in their original games. For some reason, I am glad Greninja also has this feature.

I'm pretty sure Samus had mirrored sprites in the original Metroid, too.

(Link and Pit probably as well, but ... less familiar with those games)

It's only present in characters who are symmetrical in design, so to speak. Samus, Link, Rosalina etc. are not affected.

I actually liked this addition, considering it is quite complicated to do with 3D models as opposed to sprites.

I like it for characters whose idle stance isn't really "changed" by the flip, like Kirby and Bowser. Seeing Greninja swap which arm is held out though kinda irks me and I don't even know why. I'm just a nitpicky person I suppose.

100% approval from me. Most exposure of the parts that show the greatest range of expression.

Honestly Mario, Kirby, Yoshi, Jigglypuff, Bowser, Mega Man, Pac-Man and Sonic are the only ones I think need this.

Hmm, I actually like the change. For some reason, it reminds me of the Bruce Lee films where there's two bad guys ganging up on him from the front and the back. Bruce will knock away the guy in the front, and then quickly reposition himself to take out the guy in the back, while still facing the same way he was when he got the front guy.

I like it.

It really makes the game seem more polished, and for characters that are physically able to be mirrored without swapping their design and stuff, it really makes more sense. Why would you relatively slowly turn your entire body around to face the other way, when you can just slightly adjust your stance and move your head around? (because dominant hands are a thing and different sides of your body have different strenghts, but this is a ****ing video game and most of these character don't have a set handedness)

It kinda helps us appreciate their designs more, as we always see them from the side they are intended to be seen.

The problem with sprites is its harder to design sprites that actually show the full turn around. Typically, in 2D sprite-based games they'll just flip the sprites so its easier to design (which also means that characters switch hands and everything). Its actually quite annoying for assymetrical characters. When characters are designed symmetrically its not too big of a deal, but a character like Link whose always left handed? When he's facing right he's using the correct hand, but when facing left he's using the wrong hand to swing his sword. Or visa-versa, I can't recall which direction he's facing correctly.

For this game, I don't mind the feature as long as characters wielding a weapon don't suddenly switch hands. Characters without a weapon are perfectly fine.

Yeah, it's funny though -- I'm pretty sure Samus' gun arm changed even in Super Metroid.

Rosalina wouldn't be necessarily affected. Her hairstyle is assymetrical, but she could flip like Greninja with no problem. Sagat in SF4 does this. However, Vega's claw switches hands so it's always visible.

Oh, seriously, it did? Well, that's good, it means they put the extra effort into it. Samus' gun arm is always on one arm, it makes no sense for it to switch (and keep in mind, Samus is NOT a character in this game who is flipped going left to right; because she's an asymmetrical character she always turns around properly.

This is a fantastic feature. Why would anyone have anything against ambidexterity?

Because some characters aren't SUPPOSED to be. In the past the whole "character flip" thing was just due to it being easier on the development team. In this case, though, they've only flipped characters who aren't ambidextrous anyway, so its fine.

Sorry, you read what I said backwards. Her arm changed -- they didn't change the sprite, just flipped it.

Thing's always on her right hand.

Even Metroid 2 did it, and from there onwards, they've never just flipped the sprite, though maybe parts of it. (I think her legs might actually be separate from the rest of her body, makes sense since her upper body is always static when she runs while shooting)

Oh, my mistake. :p Yeah, that's a typical trait in 2D games; its easier to just flip the sprite than to create a sprite facing the opposite direction.

Thing's always on her right hand.
Nevermind, back to my original comment: That's pretty damn awesome. They took the extra effort to make the opposing animation actually show the gun arm on the other hand.

Ah, it's been a long time since I played Super Metroid :) Great game, but I have a terrible memory apparently.

The original game flipped, though. So if we're going back to original games Samus should flip too :p

What about him?
Oh right yeah I forgot him, Peach and Zelda, probably Lucario and Charizard too.

I guess when/if Captain Falcon, Ganondorf, R.O.B., Wario, Ness, and Mewtwo get confirmed the same would be for them.

Not sure why you quoted me. Your post has nothing to do with mine. Unless you like pointing out the obvious for the sake of obviousness.

Your profile picture made me laugh.

ON TOPIC: I like the change, but I hope Luigi won't have a backwards L half the time.

Speaking of ambidexterity, you know what I have noticed? In Kid Icarus: Uprising, Pit is right-handed, but in Super Smash Bros, he is left-handed.

[EDIT] New image added in the spoiler.

You sure about that? What if Pit is only left handed while he's facing left?
