Smash Wii U Anyone else get this problem?

First thing to note- I'm using a gamecube controller when this happens. Ok so basically what happens is- if while starting up smash and I move the analog stick around at all, the controller will kind of 'glitch' and the menu will be spammed as if the analog is being held a certain way, it won't stop until I either turn off the console or plug in another control and or re-plug that same one in.
At first, I thought the controller was broken, so to test this I plugged in another GC controller and then it stopped. Then I plugged in the controller it was glitched with and it wasn't doing it anymore. So then I was like hmm, that's weird- brand new controller doing this? So I started up smash again and this time didn't mess with the analog while it was loading and it was fine.
So then to rule out if it was a controller issue I plugged in the other GC controller I have to the side and started up smash and messed with the analog, and sure enough it was glitched with that controller as well. I ruled out the controller being the issue. So the question is, is this a normal thing? I can easily avoid this and isn't a major problem as long as I don't touch the analog while it's loading but IF this isn't normal, it can really either be 2 things that are the problem: 1. The adapter or 2. The console. Anyways, input on this appreciated because if it's not normal I'd like to return the console/adapter before my warranty or w/e ends. Just got it a week ago. Thank you.

It's due to you moving the analog stick. Input glitches like this aren't exclusive to smash, they happen across all kinds of platforms. The easiest way to resolve them is unplug / plug your controller back in.

It's 100% avoidable so you shouldn't need to return anything and is a quick fix if it happens.

So not everyone who messes with the analog in smash start up experiences this? I know its 100% avoidable and not a big deal but if the input glitch only happens to some people I'd still like to return it.

The analog glitch usually occurs when there is a button input/direction being held when the console/software is starting up. As said, it can be easily avoidable and I would add that you should take care of your gaming peripherals/game discs.

Hold X + Y + Start on your GameCube controller for a few seconds to recalibrate the analog sticks. Also try using one of the other three USB ports on the console (gray wire is optional if you do not need rumble support.)

If either of the above does not fix it, you might have a bad controller. As an example, I have one particular GC controller which physically feels like the sticks are brand new, but internally something is wrong with it, as it does what you described on three consoles (GC, Wii, and Wii U.)

This isn't actually a glitch, it's a hardware function often referred to as setting the "neutral position" of the controller, especially the joystick. While it's a lot easier to do while waiting for a Pro Controller to sync than a Gamecube controller, the way to prevent it is to not press things while the system is booting/the controller is connecting. If it happens, as mentioned, re-plug the controller, as that sets its neutral position.

As an observation, if you get to a menu and then plug a controller in while holding down, releasing it will move up constantly. holding down will treat it as if it were in neutral. You can toy around with it by holding it in partial directions and whatnot.

So yea. Just hardware, and while not a glitch, absolutely annoying. Always fun playing F-Zero GX with the position just enough to screw your steering without influencing the menus.

So this is normal then? And to the guy who said it might be a bad controller, I doubt it. It happened with 2 controllers and keep in mind I was intentionally messing with the analog sticks that time- just to test it. Raijinken Raijinken from what I'm gathering from your post does that mean everyone will experience the same thing as I do if they use the analog stick when starting up?

Essentially, yes. You can feel free to test it out yourself at different degrees of joystick press. I personally haven't had that much issue with it on the Gamecube controller on the U, but everything described sounds like the same thing that happened with the Wii and the Gamecube.

To the OP, did you try the calibration sequence in my previous post? I am only suggesting that the controller is at fault if that sequence doesn't fix it, assuming you have tried all four USB ports.

Oh, ok. Have you ever tried messing with the analog in startup? If you have, does it happen to you or not? The reason I'm asking is because I know it's pretty much a nuisance if anything, but I don't want the reason for this to occur to be a defected piece of hardware, which I'm trying to rule out. Considering this costed me around $300 and I want to make sure all is in great condition. My friend mentioned that happened all the time on the GC he remembers btw, and I sort of remember getting that too.

Just tested to make sure, and yes, this was the case. Then I unplugged the controller (not the adapter) and plugged it in without hitting anything, resolving the problem.

Almost certainly not a hardware issue.

Ok, sweet thank you for helping me straighten this out!
