Because apparently the first game was good enough to deserve a sequel. Why do **** games get undeserved sequels and games like Beyond Good and Evil get their sequels stuck in development Hell?

The first Costume Quest got quite a following, as I said before if you want a challenge don't play it. You should praise it for its humour, art direction, story and atmosphere. I'm also a huge fan of Windwaker, and the art direction in Costume Quest is very similar, that might be why I enjoyed the game so much.

I do sympathise with those that think Double Fine are becoming a bit too casual, but from the looks of their upcoming games (with the exception of CQ2) they are trying to make some games for the hardcore market.

As for Beyond Good and Evil 2, well I guess the best news we got recently is that Ubisoft actually told people that its still in development, rather than the developer. Which is a much more credible source. In all honesty give it 5 years and the sequel will be done.

I miss the old Double Fine. Psychonauts, Brutal Legend, those were the greatest games of them all.
