For some reason, the only arts I seem to use are buster and smash. I can never see any practical use for the other three in a standard battle.

Jump has plenty of uses than Speed or Shield, albeit Speed is the more aggressive grounded Art to utilize than Shield. Shield is particular, but it's usage to keep you alive & beef up your Rage at high % is very much worth it especially if you stay in the lead. You're missing out on the 3 other Arts.:c

Eh. Jump only has practical use when recovering, and I can't really quickly activate it when recovering. Speed makes him feel a little bit too fast, like I can't control him. Shield just doesn't feel that useful. I'm more of a hyper offense guy, so purposefully reducing my offensive power isn't something I really like to do. Currently, I just use Buster to rack up damage, then Smash to finish the opponent off, and it works pretty well.

Press B 3 times and you are in jump (double tapping quickly cancels your current art) or press B 4 times (if you aren't comfortable with the double tap). You can basically do this in 1 second, then its 1s for the art to take over.
When Im on my A-game (not now cus im in a funk) Im almost immediately in jump.

Jump is basically you're main edge-guard, maybe smash sometimes. I've gone for the edge-guard in speed too many times....and ended up falling WAAAAY too quickly.

Honestly my shield useage despite me loving it before is declining. If anything I use Shield to get them to 30% or so when Im high% and then its switch to Buster, or Speed and im going aggressive on that ass, unless it's one of those match-ups where they're retardedly fast in their attack speed and animations... (why hello thar Sheik/Fox) then yeah Shield tank it is.

Im just trying to get into my mo-jo with Smash. I used to use it a lot, then I realized how *easily* it makes it to kill you. Then I realized how much of a pain it is to kill things outside of Smash...

If I were to analyze it best.

Buster's low damage modifier (shields as well) also translates into a lack of hit-stun. Because of this speed and Vanilla are to me often good starters, though speed also has a damage penalty. Once a little damage is racked up, basically buster's "stun" is equivalent to what speeds used to be, so Buster starts becoming better than speed for strings.

Jump gives you better air-game & better off-stage edge-guarding potential with the boosted horizontal air speed Jump does for Shulk. If anything Jump for a hyper offensive player as you say, should be your ideal kind of Art to use for gimping opponents. You could use both jumps to be edge-guarding with & still DI towards the ledge & Air Slash to recover if you're balls deep off-stage to being off-screen. The moment you get launched & you're on an Art currently, you press B twice to cancel the Art & quickly press B twice more to cycle past the gray kanji & have it on the Jump kanji. Then it's just waiting for that moment until it procs then your horizontal air speed is boosted by a large margin.

Speed is basically you playing Sonic, so if you can't control Speed Shulk I suggest trying out Sonic & getting the feel of his game-play & come back to Shulk when you feel ready to control the grounded movement speed. The pivot inputs in Speed mode is really fantastic & I humbly recommend trying the Art out.

Shield is probably going to be your least used & favorite Art due to your natural style of play. So no advice to give here really.

I use speed the most because from my experience it's a great way to throw off your opponent and also allows you to land a good number of hits while also avoiding hits yourself. I reserve shield only for when my percentage is high and use jump pretty much only when I need to recover or my opponent is super high up.

Best feeling in Smash 4 IMO is putting on the Smash art with Shulk and hitting someone with his forward smash-killing them before 100. Just such a juicy, powerful, sexy ass smash attack I love it :p

I used to and then I found this forum and then found out about pivots for speed, and how buster and smash reduce your weight.

I used to just buster/smash all day, with the occasional shield at high %, but I started to practice and incorporate jump monado edge-guard and speed to change the pace of battle. Utilizing the other arts helped level up my game considerably and I began to see Shulk in another light.

While Buster and Smash are really useful, I like going Speed for mix-ups and making my grab game more potent. (N-Air while in Monado Speed is stupid good) I like Jump for edge-guarding purposes, although Smash can sometimes work for edge-guarding. I do admit that I don't use shield as much as I should though.
