Any tips for someone new to the competitive scene?

Pretty much the title. Looking for tips to improve my game, specifically in terms of utilizing mind games and advanced techniques. On a side note, I'd love to know about some tournaments near Greenville SC.

*sigh* I had a response, but Smashboards started doing their nightly update, and it ate my response...the watered down version is:

Learn teching and L-canceling. Those are crucial. Dash dancing and wavedash are also very good. Wavedashing is hard, keep working on it. SHFFL is also very good.

Learn character specific stuff on the PM and Melee boards (because Marth is very similar in Melee).

Play all the friendlies. All the time. At every tourney. Ask for help. People will help you. We want you to be good.

Check Facebook, Reddit, and Smashboards for SC tourneys and groups. Also check for Clemson things since you're close to there. @CT_ESAM (goes to Clemson) might know something if you can't find anything.
