(I wasn't sure where to put this, so I'll put it here) Hey, why don't we talk about the Computer Players and their behaviors? I'm very interested with Smash's AI, and I would like to make a thread about discussing CPU Behaviors and all that. It can be about anything you want to say about them.

From what I've seen, The CPUS in Brawl did had a tendency to gang up on the human players in fights. And from what I've seen, they must have made it so the CPU wont target the player as often... What are some things you've noticed about the Computer Players?

It still doesn't seem to take into account your current stance. Like when you're smash charging, it still comes to you, and when you're dizzy it doesn't fully take advantage of it.

It seems to be more greedy towards items too, but maybe it is just a feeling.

I also noticed that when there is a battle while it is recovering, it can take stupid decisions as avoiding attacks seems to be higher priority for it than getting to the ledge

I also noticed that it has a very bad tendency to shield when you are in range of your fastest attack... and keep shield up until it is almost gone if you do not actually attack. Attacking at the right moment can get a dizzy pretty easily

I have noticed that even the easiest CPU level may sometimes shield-grab you without any warning. Apparently, the Brawl CPU's defensive habits haven't completely vanished, but it's a less common sight for the easier CPUs when compared to in Brawl.

Generally speaking, the level 9 AIs for characters who have counters seem to be able to do frame perfect counters. It might just be how I play, but they do counter a lot.

Also Diddy Kong's AI does not recover. He always angles up special to the left and dies in situations where he could have lived.

If you are in the air, the CPU will move to the direction you're moving and try to net an up smash.

From my practice matches against the CPU, I noticed that level 9 CPUs don't taunt when they kill, and only on level 9. I also noticed that Level 9 Ness LOVES to use PKT2. And on classic mode, some giant CPUs can accidentally SD (So far I seen this happen twice to a giant :4sonic:, and once to a giant :4littlemac:)

I find that quite often the CPU learns between matches and is able to counter any repetitive behaviour I develop. Not only that , but the CPUs that you can fight between online matches learn to taunt every time they KO. They certainly didn't taunt when I SDed at the very start! :p

Mega Man WILL use crash Bomb each time he fails to recover with Rush. Duck Hunt usually tries Clay Shooting to recover before sometimes resorting to Duck Jump, or just dying.

I've noticed Meta Knight wigging out on Living Room a handful of times, though not any others. I also noticed that in the Wario Challenge, he did me the favor of driving right off the ****ing stage, so there's that.

So far, I haven't seen any suicidAl AI scripts like the ones that happened a lot in Melee. My favorite suicidal AI was when Yoshi at level 9 CPU would insta-suicide at the start of a match on the Earthbound stage on Melee.

The AI in the 3DS version?

Since patch 1.0.5, they now know your every move, will know the perfect solution to said input, and seem impossible to hit in the air offstage.

Lv. 9 Pit is the bane of my computer-practicing experiences.

The 1st time a friend of mine unlocked Wario for me on the 3DS version (prior to the 2 patches), he threw the bike at him just as he was trying to get back on stage (he was using Ike).

Every time I play against a Ness bot he NEVER uses PSI Magnet (Down Special) even when I'm playing fox and spamming blaster on him.

I think it was before the last patch that whenever I played a Diddy Kong, they would ALWAYS SD whenever they tried to recover with his upb. Either by just never releasing it, or by going off in weird angles.

Now, all I know about the AI is really spike happy. Even on Level 8, I've seen everyone from Capt. Falcon to Samus try to spike my ass off stage.

Level 9 Falcon and Ganondorf AI spam their Falcon Kick and Warlock Kick (Down Specials) repeatedly if you are in range and the kick won't move them off stage at their current position. Happens a lot in training mode.

I've seen a Lv. 9 CPU Little Mac filling up his power meter and then would sometimes just sit there and end up wasting his K.O. Uppercut.

Plus, I've heard that the CPUs have improved in the latest patch. Haven't really noticed much any difference since I haven't played much of the game at the moment.

I really only play lvl9 CPUs, so this might only apply to them, but I have noticed that...
  • They sometimes just like to jump off the stage and jump back on for no apparent reason.
  • When it's a character that has a Counter special, they are nothing more than a living Counter. (excluding Peach.)
  • They're really easy to spike. They never seem to see it coming.
  • Olimar lvl9 is insanely good for some reason.
