obviously I don't.
I use right index finger for Y and and right middle finger for R when I wave dash
so I can place my thumb on cstik or A. When I wavedash out of shield I use L to wavedash
When I JC grap I use Y and R (right thumb on Y and right index finger on Z, so I can move to JC grap from Waveshine quickly)

However, except for that occasion, I use X instead of Y with my right thumb for jump.
(I fail at short hopping with Y while I am consistent with X). I use R to L cancle.
My button combination for waveshining is B-> X instead of B -> Y with L at the end.

What do you think is perfect one. Obviously this is not it.

It doesn't matter what you wavedash or shield with. I know a smasher who plays using one foot because he doesn't have an arm.

Its possible to be good and have a completely different method of doing things. As long as its comfortable and manageable for you, go for it. Specifics like "what finger presses what button" doesn't matter much in the grand scheme of things until you start doing random tech. stuff that isn't really necessary.

I recently changed my short-hop/wavedash/waveshine button to Y. Best move I've made since deciding to C-stick my aerials.

Whatever you're conferrable with.

I never thought about what buttons I use, and it just came naturally.

I started trying to do that a month or two back (haven't played much lately), but I haven't been too successful. Sometimes, I wonder if it's worth it.

I found that I waveshined faster, and I could do them backwards with more success, but using Y in matches screws me up more. I would sometimes use X for jump, and other times Y for jump, but it's mainly for waveshines. I just want to use one button though...I mean, sometimes I find myself thinking about which button I'm supposed to press (for a split second, my mind goes, "Wait, I'm supposed to press y..." *comboed*). I sometimes will end up pressing Y instead of A out of a short hop, since they're directly above one another. Lol, I need to practice more.

You have to practice with Y A LOT before you remember to use it. I made the move because when I was doing waveshine>shffl repeats with Falco, I realized that X was MUCH further than Y. I then did Y for waveshines, then I decided that I might as well switch over to Y for short hop. It might take some time, but trust me, making the switch will greatly increase the speed of your Fox.

I use x, y, and up to jump depending on the situation. I've never really put much though into which to use, I just do what feels right.

I remember at georgia that cactuar had no x and r button. I don't use those at all either, but raynex on the other hand uses every button for something. It doesn't really matter what fingers you use, but IMO claw is probably the best if you can master it.

Claw would give you some crazy tech skill, but it would also do some damage to your hands. My fingers are long, so this would be especially uncomfortable.

I also made the switch from X to Y. It does take a while, I'm currently about a month in and I still have two issues that flare up every now and then.

1. SH aerial too fast. I have to actually wait between jumping and hitting A with Y sometimes I'll jump and not attack at all.

2. SH aerial out of shield. Same reasons, I end up shield grabbing instead of actually jumping out because I do it too fast.

Other than that though, I think everything is better. What was funny though was until last week I could not SH double laser with Y to B yet I could easily with X. Then one day it just was natural and worked fine. Just takes a long time, and it helps if your deliberate (ie. during a match any downtime or approach should be what your trying to work on, and you should be thinking about it).

C-stick your aerials. Especially shffls. Problem solved. Unless you were talking about Nairs.

I short hop with X, full jump with any of the jump buttons (depends where my thumb is), wavedash/shine with Y, and do random techs like multishines and SHDL with Y. I don't claw but I move into it occasionally for certain things, mainly with peach/jiggly though not fox.

It doesn't really matter how you do things, as long as you can do them. The exception is the C-stick, that actually affects what you can do with regards to DI :p But if your fingers are on the controller then chances are they're alright.
