Any hints on some sort of campaign or adventure mode yet?

We all know SSB is all about that glorious multiplayer but I always did enjoy the Adventure mode in Melee and the Subspace in Brawl. Which way do you think they'll stray? Or maybe do you think they'll go in an entirely new direction like the Smash Run that's exclusively on 3DS?

Well obviously there's no hints, but given how even the 3DS version was showcasing another multiplayer mode, I wouldn't be surprised if they are going all (well mostly) multiplayer this time around.

That would be a very drastic leap if they decided to go almost exclusively multiplayer and I honestly can't see them going that route. One of the best pleasures of playing Smash Bros was going through the campaigns and getting struck by those "Challenger Approaching" screens.

If they're sticking their guns with single player I think they should go with something similar to Melee's adventure mode. It was fun going through a level tailored to each of the characters instead of the uninspired SSE hubs.

I see Classic mode returning for both, but the Wii U version will probably be the only one having Adventure mode.

Well Sakurai said we wouldn't see something like Subspace Emissary. IMO that was a giant waste of resources as most people simply don't care or play it beyond what is required.

Multiplayer is where this game is at.

That said I'd fully expect something a bit more comparable to Classic Mode, buffed. Maybe with the bosses you can find on levels and variations like Metal Mario. Then these crazy new modes like that new 3DS exclusive.

I agree with most of what's been said here, I suspect we'll have Classic Mode as always (perhaps with stage bosses at certain points?) although that would make Classic Mode different for each game. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I wonder if the Wii U version will also have some sort of exclusive multiplayer, or perhaps 3Ds gets extra perks because the devs think that most people will end up playing on the Wii U anyway so they need a way to boost its sales.

Good riddance, that is really great news.

I would be satisfied with just having the Classic mode but I suspect Sakurai will do something similar on the Wii U with what he did on the 3DS with Smash Run.

Well, in one pic of the day that featured a screenshot that can now be identified as being from Smash Run, Sakurai mentioned that the Adventure/Solo mode(s) will not be like Subspace Emissary, so maybe Smash Run is but one piece of the puzzle (or he was referring to something else)...

Even though there really haven't been many hints I believe that Classic Allstar and Adventure mode will return.

Something a little more in-deph than Melee but not a total resource sink like Subspace Emissary would be perfect. Maybe a character-specific adventure mode.

That's really all that I want single-player wise from Smash 4: a more in depth, slightly expanded on version of the Adventure mode from Melee.

Classic, All-Star, Stadium and Training are all I'm expecting to get for single-player, and I won't be disappointed with that selection.

We could get a really long Adventure Mode like Brawl's, just without an actual plot.
I think we would have seen some sign of it by now. I'm doubting that we'll even get a short adventure mode like Melee had. I don't have a problem with it though; multi is the meat of the game and their resources should be going into it. Subspace Emissary was entirely forgettable and I never revisited it after unlocking everyone. It was like a really lackluster Kirby game.

We're talking about the Wii U version.

Trust me, Sakurai is gonna be revealing a ton of news after the 3DS version launches.

Nintendo is smart to release the two versions at separate times. People are gonna want to try out both and double dip.

Hmmm, I'm not sure if they'd withhold something that big between versions. I predict it will be minor stuff about the Wii U version that only gets revealed after the 3DS launch, like special options and online features.

There was no mention of an adventure mode from the last direct. He did mention All Star Mode though. I can see a more of a melee style adventure mode returning really.

Smasboards suck
Melee adventure mode was boring to me. Need more depth this time.

Well All Star Mode was confirmed during the direct. Classic mode is gonna be back, there's no way it wouldn't be. As for an Adventure mode... I think we'll see something probably after the 3DS version's release, as well as other bigger features than just character changes.
