I'm having a smash tournament at my house, and I want to be able to have plenty of controllers. I can't find any OG controllers that will ship in time, so please post good 3rd party controllers that ship quickly.

LOL. The answer is sadly, no. All third party controllers are trash. Manageable for most games at least but with smash it is unplayable. Try searching second hang shops. it is where I got the one I use.

This. Also, a lot of stores should have the SSB4 one available tomorrow (which is just a regular GC controller with a different logo on it and a longer cable). Goes for $30.

See this thread for why third party controllers are trash: http://smashboards.com/threads/third-part-controller-is-great.343559/

Any competitive players (apart from maybe very new ones) will not like playing on third party controllers. Does no-one have their own to bring? How many do you have? Regardless, even if the third party controllers are significantly cheaper than official ones (and they're not that much cheaper), they will be practically guaranteed to break extremely quickly and will be worse in every way besides that even in mint condition.

Fact is, and I don't know how many people appreciate this, but Nintendo is actually one of the few game companies that give a flying flip about the durability of their products. Anything related to Sony or Xbox, for example, is fragile and to be handled with care, but Nintendo? I swear, they have some patent on a secret super-alloy for their products. Tests on the gamecube, for example, demonstrate bowling balls dropped, hammers smashed against, and hockey games played, all have little to no effect on the gamecube.

My favorite example: There is an original gameboy. Its in a museum in... Eastern Europe, I think? It survived an airstrike. It is quite warped and rusted. IT STILL PLAYS GAMES WITHOUT A DAMN HITCH. AFTER BEING BOMBED.

So for other consoles, third party can sometimes be worth investigating. But nobody is willing to put in the work Nintendo seems to when it comes to alternative products.

Off topic, but nintendo wouldn't move forward on any prototype of the nintendo DS if it couldn't survive 10 falls from 5 feet without having any problems. That's right, the prototype had to shrug off being dropped from 5 feet 10 times like it was nothing just to be worked on. I don't really like nintendo that much, but they make the most durable gaming hardware to ever exist.

On topic, yeah, don't go third party unless you are super desperate. I think the best thing to do would be to get some used ones from your local game shop, but if there aren't any, get the new smash 4 game cube controllers.
