Animethon, a yearly event held in Edmonton, hitting # 16, and also my first Animethon. It was absolutely great, and I want to share just how awesome this weekend was.
On friday me and my friends went and registered, 35 dollars for a 3 day pass (though we did nothing Friday lol) due to nothing interesting us, plus we went to scavenge our cosplay costumes and finish preparing them. Our group Saturday included 2 lame no dressers, 1 Wesker, 1 Chris Redfield, 1 Trowa (who no one could figure it out cause his hair sucked XD) and I was Persona 4's Dojima (with the worlds crappiest pink tie, made out of a bed sheet....ya...dyeing stuff sucks). We hit Animethon early at around 10, first going to the Canadian Voice Acting panel, featuring Michael Daingerfield, Paul Dobson (personal <3 best) and freaking Brad Swaile!! We sat for an hour with a bunch of other people, talking with these guys, asking them questions. Brad, Paul and especially Michael were incredibly inspirational, offering help to a VA hopeful, as well being absolutely hilarious, telling us great stories (Ill get to some later) as well as just talking about their roles and such. Those 3 are some of the nice, coolest people I have ever met, and after the panel we went for Autographs with them at the main floor (couldnt do it their, since they had it booked elsewhere and were late).
Unfortunately, we had a huge line, and no merch (atleast I didnt) so I had it planned theyd sign my pass tag/ book. I then decided to rush and buy something (Gundam 00 and Ranma 1/2) for Brad and Paul to sign. Sadly we lost our place in line, missing our chance to get their (as well as Aaron Dismuke and Caitlin Glass (FMA fanboys should know them, specifically Aaron well)). We then went to the merch stand for a while longer, and I bought some epic posters (of OoT, Link and Kakashi, the latter being fan made, but OMG they are AWESOME).
After that we went to a Mech design panel...which well...sucked, we were supposed to create our own mech system/world....instead we got some boring *** game designer who doesnt even do the work, who kept advertising his next new game). After that we went merch shopping....again XD. After which we tried to go to an Aaron dismuke Q & A....sadly it was to full except for two of my friends (but Im not crazy for him) however he said the BEST thing (which my friend told me). Im sure alot of people have seen that stupid Caramelldansen video of him doing it with Vic, well someone asked him to do it and he said right to her face "No, Id rather die then do that dance" XD (Respect +7 for him). After that we went to a Capcom panel...sadly it had nothing to do with it, but a fan made show which was actually funny, but the disk crapped out 30 minutes in, which I was a little bummed about. Since I had no interest going to the Yaoi panel, we called it a night and went home. Thus concludes Day 1.
Day 2 sadly started late, since my Wesker friend is a ****** and planned horribly, we arrived at 11. Again to late for autographs....sorta...some of my friends got in, so I had them sign for me, getting Swaile's (as well as a pic of Quatre <3), Daingerfield, Glass and Dismuke (as well as a video of him saying he'd rather die than do Caramelldansen)...sadly...no Dobson...good news though was I was at his Q and A, ready to strike. He arrived late since he was busy doing as much as the line as possible (since hes so cool), and after he arrived we talked about Reboot a ton (Matrix <3), as well as his other roles, as well as hearing his starting story, being recruited by Scott Mcneil while he was a DJ at a strip club. He also did MANY voices he does, all great, as well as doing a sexy pose when someone said he does a lot of pretty boys (funny as heck), as well as finding out before being a DJ he tried to be a Dentist....before telling his teacher to go to hell XD. At the end of it all, he did some autographs, including mine, even signing as Matrix, saying "Fmm...I have no Format!!!" and then his and Matrix's sig. I then shook his hand saying it was a honor, and as sincenre as possible (because it was) he said the honor was his, truly an absolute inspriation, and has made me want to atleast TRY to get into being a VA....Oh, and apparently his worst fan was someone who wanted him to sign his soul to her....we all laughed at the memory XD.
Next was Brad, who was amazing, again honoring many of his great roles, doing of course the chip line, Mousse, Quatre, Maxwell and more. He even had a Light cutout he hand made, with two sides, and did the laugh....you know..that laugh...and when he flipped the cutout, it had the creepiest yet coolest light image there, everyone loved it (and since Brad is a graphic designer...though his "real" job is less than lucretive the awesome picture he made as well). He also got requested to Caramelldanse...he polietely said no....but....instead he did the fing Hamtaro dance from the ending credits, it was AWESOME (and I posses possibly the only video of it). After the panel, I went to get his autograph, and not only got it, but as well a man-hug (Im not gay...but I was so fing happy to hug Brad Swaile...I mean its Brad Swaile, why not). Then was Daingerfield's conference, which sadly was a little bad since only I participated (since hes not JUST anime he gets a bit of a cold shoulder) but he as well as Dobson were HUGE inspriations, and I love the guy personally, super funny and cool as well. The guests were all amazing, and Im sad i didnt get the chance to talk to Caitlin and Aaron, but they all loved Animethon, and definetly want to come back. This weekend has been the best time of my life, and Im going in a heartbeat next year (as Dante as well <3), Ill post a few pictures once my friend sends them to me, so you can see the show as well as our cosplay a little. If you were there, feel free to talk about it, or maybe if you love the VA's as well, feel free to join in. I hope anyone else there had as much fun as I did.
Just one last note....any weebo flamers as well as those who still hold there grudge against me...please...PLEASE keep it to yourselfs, I want this blog to be a fun cool place, to represent the harmony that was at the show. Well feel free to post guys (and gals) =D
